Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in recent months.
They were keen on signing the 24-year-old central midfielder during the January transfer window as well, but the England international opted to stay at Stamford Bridge.
It appears that Tottenham are still keen on securing his signature and the player could be on the move in the summer. His contract with Chelsea ends in 2025, and the Blues will be under pressure to sell him this summer. They will not want to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer.
Clubs like Newcastle United and West Ham United are keen on the midfielder as well, but journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested that Gallagher is unlikely to fancy a move to Newcastle or West Ham. A move to Tottenham would be suitable for the player and the North London club are very keen on him.
Gallagher will want to compete at the highest level, and it makes sense for him to choose Tottenham over Newcastle and West Ham. The North London club have an exciting project and a talented squad. They are closer to competing in the Champions League and pushing for domestic trophies as compared to the other two clubs.
It remains to be seen whether they can secure an agreement with Chelsea over a reasonable fee this summer.
“I understand that he’s not that keen to move to Newcastle, from what I’m being told,” said Bailey to The Spurs News.
“Obviously, West Ham would fancy their chances, but if he has to move you would think that Tottenham would would tick a lot of boxes. Obviously there’s not many places he could move.”
“I think he’d be a thoroughly welcome addition to Spurs. And Spurs, from my understanding, like him a lot. They are not banking on him because they’re aware of this contract situation. It wouldn’t surprise Tottenham if next week Chelsea offered him a contract and he signs it very quickly.
“So, he is on the radar, but they’re not putting all their eggs in that basket.”
The Chelsea midfielder has established himself as a reliable performer in the top flight, and he should prove to be a quality acquisition for Tottenham. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is expected to leave the north London club at the end of the season and Gallagher could be his replacement.
Tottenham have employed a free flowing attacking approach this season and Gallagher would be the ideal fit for their style of play. The hard-working midfielder will add drive, defensive cover, and pressing ability in the middle of the park.
He is likely to improve further with coaching and experience and he could develop into a key player for Tottenham in the coming seasons.
