Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Alessandro Buongiorno from Italian club Torino at the end of the season.
According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham are ‘favourites’ to sign the 24-year-old central defender but they will face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea.
The report states that Tottenham are in pole position to secure his services and they will have to pay £34 million to get the deal done. It will be interesting to see if they are willing to pay the asking price for the highly-rated defender.
The Italian could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for the North London club and he would help Tottenham improve defensively. The North London outfit have signed players like Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven this season, but Ange Postecoglou has recently revealed that Tottenham must look to sign another central defender in the summer.
Buongiorno could complete their defensive unit for the foreseeable future. The 24-year-old has proven his quality in the Italian league and he is certainly good enough for the Premier League as well. He will look to establish himself as a regular starter for Tottenham if the transfer goes through.
The reported £34 million asking price could look like a reasonable investment if the defender manages to adapt to English football quickly.
He has the ability to develop into a top class Premier League defender with the right guidance. Tottenham must do everything in their power to get the deal done.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been quite vulnerable at the back of the season and they will have to tighten up defensively. Thiago Silva will be a free agent in the summer and they need to replace him. The 24-year-old Italian would be a superb addition.
Similarly, Arsenal have been overly reliant on Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba at the back. They need more depth in the squad if they want to compete with Manchester City consistently. Signing another reliable defender would be a wise decision.
