Total Waste Of Time

By The Boy -

International football has died a death.

The myth that there is still more than a passing public interest is perpetuated solely by the mainstream media.

In the pre-Internet days newspapers could publish whatever they wanted; you had no choice other than another paper, and they already had your money by the time you were tucking in to the day’s news.

Page after page dedicated to what England or whoever, gave the impression that there was huge interest in even minor national games.

Nearly 50 barren years on from 1966, the birth of the world wide web, and the inception of the Champions League, it’s revealed that nobody cares anymore.

The teams at all levels are comprised of over-hyped players who’s commitment is frequently questioned.

The TV viewing figures for most International games are abysmal.

ITV went as far as actually apologising for broadcasting the Republic of Ireland vs England.

Last night’s fiasco is something that really ought to be prevented from happening.

I’m not talking about England losing, I’m talking about a Spurs player participating in another pointless International.

Premier League clubs need to be given the option to veto invitations to Internationals.

The mindless expenditure of effort in these games is made worse by the fact that there dozens of English players under 21 who would give their eyeteeth to for the opportunity and the exposure.

International games have become as welcome as Europa League matches. Another waste of time and effort.

Players have add ons in their contracts for International appearances. The first thing clubs can do to protect their players, is to unilaterally remove these from future agreements.

A club player’s first obligation is to his club.

The lure of triggering more money by accepting International selection needs to go.

Had England won last night, with Kane scoring a hat trick would I feel the same way? The argument you’re trying to initiate is two bald men fighting over a comb.

Kane still has a preseason tour and then the Audi Cup just days ahead of our new season.

The last thing he should be doing is belting around in yet another futile football match – when there are so many important ones to come.
