Levy Quoted £50M

Levy Quoted £50M

Swansea have now put a £50million price tag on Gylfi Sigurdsson, Press Association Sport understands.

The 27-year-old scored nine league goals and had 13 assists in a team which spent the entire season battling against relegation.

It was understood Swansea wanted at least £40million if they were to sell Sigurdsson, but that figure has now been revised with transfer fees spiralling this summer.

He has scored 30 goals in 112 games since the Swans signed him from Tottenham for £6.8m in July 2014.

No wonder this deal has stalled – perhaps irrevocably.

The Press Association tend to get things very right and this revelation makes lots of sense.

It comes as no surprise that Swansea want to maximise any deal for Siggy.

Quibbling over the vulgarities of money in 2017 is beyond pointless. We live in an age where Bonzo (a man who would probably fail to hold down a job at Poundland) is worth £50million.

Why on earth wouldn’t Swansea stick another £10million onto the value of Sigurdsson who has three years left on his contract?

Why on earth wouldn’t Swansea stick another £10million onto the value of  Sigurdsson, who was named the club’s player of the year for the second successive campaign last season?

The boy’s also linked with Everton and and now Leicester.

I’m getting bored of repeating this so I’ll keep it brief. What we have right now is not good enough to even stand still next season.

Spurs are a horse that has been severely handicapped by this utterly stupid and wholly unnecessary Wembley debacle.

If you disagree with that and think that ‘everything will be just fine’ then you’re an imbecile – I can’t engage with you or anyone else that brings f_______ hope to an argument. Not interested. If hope is your thing, I suggest you find a priest opposed to clogging up my server with your banality.

Is Siggy somehow now the Icelandic Messi? No, but nobody ever claimed he was. But he is rather good and a would obviously be a brilliant counterpart for the unreliable Eriksen and the even less reliable Dele.

Levy has a tough few weeks ahead of him. He doesn’t really? Oh then it must be that Poch has no targets whatsoever and everyone at THFC is still too busy cooing over virtual tours and how funky the fondue sticks in the Cheese Room will be.

Any absence of improvement in this particular window will not just be insufferable, it will be embarrassing.   Spurs were 7/1 last week to win the league. That’s quietly drifted out to 10/1 and unless Levy does the business, that price will balloon.

Walker is one thing but criticising Eriksen and Dele? What is it that makes them so unreliable? Is it all the goals and assists?

So far we are having our best transfer window compared to last 6 years – our net transfer s not negative yet.

  • frankywiggles July 11, 2017 at 9:58 am

what do thfc scouts get payed to do? never seems to be any fcukers lined up to come in early doors. siggurdsson could of been scouted watching sky, ross barkley too but in that case you would need to of missed two nights sleep to identify him as a playmaker for a top 2 team. if thats the extent of the ambityon when we finish second it sends a bad message to the players. says were not really serious about goingfor the title.

    • David Dillenberg July 11, 2017 at 10:14 am

      Brief interjection:

      David Pleat scouted Alli.
      Other clubs:
      Ian Rush(Chester to Liverpool)
      John Aldridge (Oxford to Liverpool)
      Kevin Keegan (Scunthope to Liverpool)

      Those were the days!

  • Camus July 11, 2017 at 9:25 am

Another day on the transfer rumour mill. Enjoy it, kids. These are the moments we’ll all look back on and cherish.

  • Tony Borg July 11, 2017 at 7:37 am

I wonder how Levy likes it being quoted a price that the player isn’t worth? If he carry’s on in the way he does he will burn all bridges leading to Spurs and no one will want to deal with us. Time for Joe Lewis to either put his hand in his pocket for player investment 🙂 or consider the sale of the club to a consortium that will. COYS

    • David Dillenberg July 11, 2017 at 7:56 am

Until any future takeover bid is accepted the status quo remains as the club is not for sale.
As we are currently resisting selling our best players IMO Levy’s stance should be applauded.

Not selling Dier, Kane at least shows some intent by the Club. I have to agree with Digiyid below that when the mid table sides finish their plundering and getting average players the bigger guns including us will start to reel in their targets and offload those not needed. For us it maybe:
    Wimmer
    Sissoko
Walker (although I still have reservations abut this one)
McGee (this is guy is as good as we already have)
    Fazio
    N’Koudou
N’Gie (maybe already gone I think)
Possibly Dembele and/or Lamela (although I hope not for both)

Onomah will get more of a run and so probably will Carter-Vickers, Edwards and Harrison.

Would love Kovacic, he is exciting if this rumour has any substance.

    • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 8:23 am

Wimmer is after first team football, as will others with the World Cup next summer.

      • David Dillenberg July 11, 2017 at 8:32 am

          • David Dillenberg July 11, 2017 at 8:38 am

Syd keep the faith. Unless a French side comes knocking I think we are lumbered with Sissy and must maximise his potential next season.

            • Syd July 11, 2017 at 8:39 am

                • David Dillenberg July 11, 2017 at 8:44 am

Snippets from may standard article: ‘ the NFL are said to have contributed 10 million to the new spurs stadium project. Should London have an NFL franchise Tottenham’s stadium will he the obvious choice.’ Daniel levy said: ” we wanted to create something beyond a stadium in Tottenham…bringing the NFL delivers a whole new dimension….itl be the only stadium purpose built outside the states to host NFL games so we hope the NFL starts to think of it as its home.” Zuckerburg may very well be interested, or other trans Atlantic investors. You can see where this is headed. The fact that spurs play football in this new ground will over time become the less dominant factor. Levy again: “I remember coming with my uncle more than 50 years ago to my first match against Q.P.R. wearing a huge rosette.” Specifics though fail Daniel. “Its hard to pick out 1 memory as a favourite as there have been so many.” Oh well. One from the archive: http://www.thefightingcock.co.uk/2014/02/the-crimes-and-delusion-of-enic-fc.

  • Yiddo July 10, 2017 at 11:54 pm

An unasked for (and ostensibly unwelcome) guest blog.
HH, allow me to preface with the following.
When it comes to all things Tottenham, I enjoy this blog more than any of the other swill that inundates newsnow and indeed half of my WhatsApp groups. I find that you are almost always astute in your observations and predictions, and the post match autopsies are often brutally (completely and justifiably) honest. You don’t sugar coat our shitty displays and I love it.
As any experienced spurs fan with a shred of common sense, I have learned the hard way that pessimism is a must to survive in this wild world. To quote Red in Shawshank, hope is a dangerous thing.
That being said, my issue arises during pre season. I totally understand and indeed share many of your views on our fearless leader, Mr Levy, and it’s pretty depressing that despite knowing nothing is going to change, I still eagerly refresh the news now page a few times a day in the vain hope that an article has magically appeared in the midst of the hitc and co bullshit click baiters. I’m sure many can empathise. Here’s a post from you a year ago.
    http://theboyhotspur.com/well-finish-5th/
Thankfully, a little off the mark. It was the logical prediction, but the squad have proven their worth, and despite its many flaws, we’re looking better than we have in any of our lifetimes. With respect H, it’s becoming a recurring rant. All I’m saying is, a little optimism goes a long way. It’s not all apocalyptical. Frustrating, granted, exceedingly so, but when the blog becomes an exclusively anti Levy agenda it becomes tedious. I’m not asking you to start writing about fairytales and children’s stories, but can we get *some* happy or even ambivalent content about the team instead of angry and predictable diatribes about Levy? He’s not compatible with football, with the club, the fans, the staff, he’s destructive and incredible at self sabotage. He’ll leave(y) (lol) one day, and I’m looking forward to it to happening, perhaps even before I kick the bucket.
I know, I don’t have the right to ask even that, and I know, if I don’t like it I can leave, but I respect you, HH, I respect the content of the blogs, and I respect the rag tag community of legends it houses. There’s no need to rose tint anything, but does it have to be shit tinted by default?
    Sincerely,
    Coys,
    Yiddo

Jose Mourinho ORDERS Ed Woodward to sanction a bid of £60 million for Dier despite been told to fuck off by Levy…Sometimes your money is not enough and you want to put up a show all over media for the sake of it only to apply some pressure on your opponents to unsettle them just before the season kicks off…it just wont work with this New Spurs though..Go and sign Matic for £20 mil less..Portuguese Gippo..

    • nick July 11, 2017 at 12:07 am

Not just New Spurs it won’t work with.Reason suggests that with all the current TV bunce NO Pl club has to sell if they don’t want to.hence siggy £50m,bonzo must be £60m & counting.Dier won’t go for less than £70m with Levys calculator. What price Dele or Kane £150m+ each at current nonsensical values

      • digiyid July 11, 2017 at 12:17 am

We made £146 mil last season via the league performance and TV revenue and everything else..He sold a few along the way which adds another £28 mil on..So far we spent a big huge massive NIL..£174 mil plus his own transfer budget should exceed a cool £200 mil. He made his intention obvious within a week or two of the seasons ending by saying “he doesnt have to sell and he will only sell players he wants to” basically he will keep his current squad to add some strength onto the bench…i personally expect him to sign 3-4 names and 2 will be future replacements for the most ageing players including the 2. choice keeper in Vorm. It makes every bit of sense if you ask me..

Has there actually ever been a time when it’s good to buy late? This whole Levy last minute deal shenanigans the press make up is bollocks. Based on prices going up every week he must be kicking himself he didn’t get in early….oh wait, thats not his priority, he has to rinse other chairman first, then pretend he tried! Some of these deals will look like good value in 4 weeks time.

  • East Stand July 10, 2017 at 11:08 pm

I’m actually starting to get the feeling that this is the season where we are finally stretched too far by Levy’s ‘pragmatism’ as I’m sure he’d like us to think of it.

Wembley, lack of ambition to bring in another couple with experience and quality, the aggressive spending of those around us and the worry that more of our players heads will be turned by clubs willing to pay the going rate is a slight worry.

Levy should sell up while our stock is high and before we start losing our quality players.

I hear he and ENIC want 2bn, with Facebook as possible buyers. Hmmm, Facebook are used to making billions out of nothing and I’m not sure they’ll want to pay over the odds.

Also, does any global concern want to sully their name with ethnically cleansing north Tottenham?

Whatever the case may be, ENIC should be selling right now for everybody’s sake….

    • digiyid July 10, 2017 at 11:24 pm

They put a lot of hard work into Tottenham..Its not about sell for £2bn because of their greed..Its the Jewish business mentality of getting paid for all the planning, putting it into practice and obviously the outcome. If anyone is prepared to buy the club must also pay for Levy and Lewis`s hard work and 17 years they invested in. aval achshav Shalom Aleichem Kulam..ve laila tov al hakol echad..

      • Lilywhite without the II July 10, 2017 at 11:28 pm

So how do they go about doing that….2.5m a year in wages for Levy and Joe has done near to fukc all apart from give some cab fare, 2b buyout not enough?

        • digiyid July 10, 2017 at 11:34 pm

He paid to buy the club..he paid to get this team of players together, he paid to buy the land and build the training facilities, he paid to purchase all the commercial properties surrounding WHL and more..Therefore he has every right to ask for his 17 years of work..simples..

Take a chill pill guys! Our strength is keeping what we have. There will be signings when the merry go round starts!

    • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 10:17 pm

Signing a player late in the window has never allowed us to get that player to perform that season, with the exception of VDV. It’s a futile activity.

      • AntSpurs July 10, 2017 at 10:21 pm

To kick off the season yes, but to add reinforcement anytime from the winter period is ok.

        • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 10:23 pm

Theoretically you’d think that a signing who missed pre season would be up to speed after three months training – but it never seems to be true. They never catch up.

          • AntSpurs July 10, 2017 at 10:28 pm

An experienced PL player would be OK.

When and if we sell Bonzo?

      • AntSpurs July 10, 2017 at 10:26 pm

Did Sissoko count for last seasons spreadsheet or this one. If we sold him will that be added to the fees for Bentaleb, Carrol, Fazio, Njie and some smaller players which may total around £28M currently ? This could take it close to £50M which will buy Barkley and another young gun/old boy.

  • digiyid July 10, 2017 at 10:06 pm

What is the point in negotiating any signings in a market like this windows? Everton a piss poor club found a few quid now throwing it around over the top on standard players. Once shit like Everton stopped their business you will see proper big guns going in and signing their targets. Man Utd were desperate enough to splash out another £75 mil and managed to off load a player earning £340k a week along the way too. Costa leaving Chelsea for £20 mil they will spend their cool £80 mil on Morata. Spurs are lucky enough to have a settled side but we need to add a couple of top notch names. I am hoping that wannabes like Everton and alike soon will be done with their signings.

    • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 10:19 pm

And then Everton will realise they’ve spent too much and try to recoup half of it on Barkley.

      • David Dillenberg July 10, 2017 at 10:21 pm

IMO selling their top scorer Lukaku will prove a disaster!

        • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 10:25 pm

For them and United. Lukaku is a blunt instrument. Not a patch on even a 35 year old Ibrahimovic.

and no cunt will meet their asking price then barkley will start throwing his made in china dummy out he will end up leaving a daft message on his twitter account .The club will put him on reserves and next january he will leave for £15 mil to stoke..

  • legover July 10, 2017 at 10:05 pm

Levy will not buy until he has sold because he only wants to use player sales income for new player acquisitions. If we fail to sell anyone for the price tag Levy wants then we will fail to buy anyone for the buying price Levy wants. If we do not strengthen we will not gain any ground next season except one we don’t want which is Wembley. Levy has a Napoleon complex and if we regress next season Pooch will be gone next summer along with Toby, Hugo, Ali and Erickson plus others and we will whimper into a magnificent new stadium like a limp wristed shambles and if that happens I hope Levy will enjoy counting the empty seats.

    • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 10:53 pm

In what way has Levy got a Napoleon complex? Bonaparte was dynamic and ambitious and always pushed to the maximum, and ultimately over reached himself. Hardly describes baldy.

  • AntSpurs July 10, 2017 at 10:02 pm

Good evening wonderful peeplz. Whilst I feel the underlying dred of our team (on the edge of glory) playing at Wembley etc There is no denying that playing in an unfamiliar stadium (especially a monstrous one) will always be difficult, wherever it is . Would it not be that much easier to get it out of the way before we enter our new home ? Much rather find our feet at Wembley before moving into to the New Destination and losing it a bit there. If losing it is a worry I may add (cause I know we’ll do fine anyways). Makes sense, no. All the other big boys play in similar settings (and don’t have any trouble) and we’ll have to face European heavyweights with large crowds soon, whether it’s at home or playing these bods in the final/s of the CL and also PL teams too. If this TEAM is good enough to compete at the top level (or not) playing at Wembley will help. I’ve include a list of a few of the largest European football stadia .
    Camp Nou – 99,354
Signul Iduna Park (Dortmund) – 81,359
    Bernabeu – 81,044
    San Siro – 80, 018
    Old Trafford – 75,811
    Allianz Arena – 75,000
    Let’s play ball …COYS 😘

    • Vikingyid July 10, 2017 at 10:55 pm

The only plus side I can see to us playing at wembley is that if and when we get to semis/finals in the future, with this crop of players, wembley it’s surroundings and atmosphere will be something they are used to, which in turn will hopefully mean we don’t choke there but see it as a second home and start winning games and trophies!!!?
      Apart from that it’s bollocks

  • richspurs July 10, 2017 at 9:59 pm

If them rules get changed to bring a free kick or corner specialist on only for that moment, then oi Levy pay up man. Worth every million.
I remember him hitting the bar or narrowly missing sitters in closing moments of key matces in his last season with us.

Wembley will be an issue for us – no doubt. At the moment, the bigger issue is we are going to be doing our transfer business late as usual. This always costs us and this season will be no different. We need to buy 2-3 decent first teamers and not squad players. Needless to say we need to replace any one we sell too.

  • melcyid July 10, 2017 at 9:31 pm

“The unreliable Eriksen and the even less reliable Dele”

I’m lost, are these the same Eriksen and Dele who played for Spurs last season? The Dele who outscored Hazard and Zlatan last season from midfield? Spur’s player Eriksen of the season who played more key passes and assists combined than any other premier league player?

    • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 9:01 pm

Shame about Eriksen’s shit direct free kicks and woeful corners.

      • mattspurs July 10, 2017 at 9:05 pm

        • mattspurs July 10, 2017 at 9:06 pm

        • David Dillenberg July 10, 2017 at 9:08 pm

Unlike MS I was not disappointed when Spurs sold Siggy because when playing for us he looked woefully slow in possession?

  • mattspurs July 10, 2017 at 8:46 pm

“What we have right now is not good enough to even stand still next season.”

To be fair you and many others said the same last summer and we finished a place higher. We were looking at 6th for sure due to lack of signings. Wanyama was derided as some kind of talentless thug waiting for a red card every match.

    • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 8:49 pm

And Poch surpassed himself. But this season we have no genuine home ground, and need to give ourselves some extra quality in depth. If it can be found.

      • David Dillenberg July 10, 2017 at 8:52 pm

Me lud instead of searching for “bargains” those marquee signings cost money!

        • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 8:55 pm

Yes, they need to be known quantities, not more punts on potential. Chicarito, Kovacic, maybe Alfie Mawson, Danni Alves.

          • gloster1861 July 10, 2017 at 8:58 pm

Looks like its hands off Siggy, and I don’t blame Swansea trying to keep him. As for Barkley, this is another last day situation.

    • Harry Hotspur July 10, 2017 at 8:51 pm

To be as fair, you glossed over Wembley.

As for the Wanyama is a thug business, he was pretty heavy handed for a few games, but rapidly became undroppable.

Wembley isn’t an incidental in the equation, sadly.

      • mattspurs July 10, 2017 at 9:02 pm

I’m a glossy kinda chap, maybe even with a bit of glitter. It all gets a bit 50 shades of black during the summer on here.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been excited about signing players but what I’ve learnt is that really what has hurt us in the past is losing good first team players.

        • Ronan July 10, 2017 at 9:31 pm

Yep, I’d be happier to just keep Kyle Walker than add any of the players I’ve seen us linked with so far. Wingbacks are so important to our system and use up so much energy, just can’t see the sense in letting him go, least of all to a direct title rival. Any replacement will be unproven in the PL, and certainly won’t be as quick.
