According to Le10Sport Spurs have ‘woken up’ and revisited negotiations for Bordeuax’s 21 year old Malcom.

Chelsea whilst linked with the player by the press, have yet to make any contact.

The same can apparently be said about Arsenal.

There’s a curious use of language here by the way, with more than one report citing that Spurs ‘lead’ the race to capture the São Paulo born boy.

Yet this is a player THFC looked at last year, and still nobody else has come close to signing him.

The Brazilian is thought to be valued in the region of £45million.

£45million sounds like a fair bit, but one has to remember that this is approximately what Eden Hazard cost Chelsea back in 2012.

Which raises the question, ‘if Spurs are 7 years behind Chelsea, is this guy going to be our Hazard?’

Mmmn.

In 2015 Malcom had a modest run of 11 appearances for for Brazil’s Under 20s.

Then nothing.

It may provide perspective at this point to add that Kylian Mbappe is 19, a World Cup star and cost a reported £166million.

Malcom is more Micky Hazard than Eden.

Just finished listening to the final episode in the series of The Infinite Monkey Cage (ep.100) on radio 4 with Brian Cox and Robin Ince, Brian Blessed, Eric Idle, and some theologists. It was a recommendation and blends scientific chat with the light-hearted humour one would expect of a radio 4 panel show.

Thought it was very good. Listen again:

On the previous article briefly, the stale cheese analogy I can see fitting Levy’s modus op perfectly. He hangs us out to dry all summer then Grealish becomes relief that something has come in. Rather than a championship player at a champions league club. Although I was surprised you cited Sissoko leaving as no genuine reason for celebration H. I for one will be like a hillbilly on the 4th of July if we get shot of him. 🎆🎈

I just had a look look at Sterlings goal reel from last season. From the 20 or give or take goals there was 15…. That’s FIFTEEN tap ins ranging from 4 to 7 yards with sometimes a goalie present, sometimes not. Also 1 penalty. The wonderful aporoach play of De Bruynne, Silva, Sane and Bernardo is a banquet for him to look good.
*footnote* What passes for an ‘assist’ these days is embarrassing.

From Twitter, a Spurs fan who knows how Levy works:

(Malcom). ‘Another leandro damiao transfer. We’ll keep tabs on him, join the race for, open talks with, prepare a bid for and my personal favourite, swoop. We’re going to do a lot of swooping! Come transfer deadline day we’ll buy a young scoring sensation from a French league mid table team.’

    😒

    Exactly so. Forever preparing bids.

      • Wig July 11, 2018 at 12:37 pm

Long-term Mousa won’t be missed. We’ve got Wanyama and Dier, as well as Winks. Plus there was lots of talk of Barrios and/or N’Dombele coming in

        • dilly July 11, 2018 at 12:38 pm

IMO both Dier and Wanyama have regressed, too pedestrian and cumbersome for my liking!

          • Wig July 11, 2018 at 12:42 pm

They’ve both got great defensive attributes, it just depends if that’s the attributes you’re looking for in that position, to focus more on the defence or to focus more on dynamism and transitions to attack. Winks appeared more mobile and dynamic but I wouldn’t trust him defensively as much as Dier and Wanyama

    • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 12:28 pm

Maguire, Pulisic yes. The other two no thanks. Let’s get Kovacic if possible.

      • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 12:30 pm

Suspect what we will get is Barrios, Yida, Grealish. Cheap cheap cheap.

    • Wig July 11, 2018 at 12:30 pm

Are there genuine links to Maguire coming to us? Would be an incredible signing but can’t see it happening unless a fee was agreed pre-world cup. I shudder to think what his value is now, ie. not in our price bracket

      • dilly July 11, 2018 at 12:31 pm

Now that Van Dijk was sold for £75M probably looking at a minimum of £65M+

          • Wig July 11, 2018 at 12:39 pm

Imagine a back three of Jan, Maguire and Sanchez. Maguire would be one of the few who could adequately fill Toby’s shoes

Whilst Spurs have yet to spark into life!, across N London Emery aint hanging about as Arse have signed France Under-20 international Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old, who started his career in Paris St-Germain’s academy, joined Ligue 2 side Lorient in 2014 and made his first-team debut aged 17 in 2016. Guendouzi is Unai Emery’s 5th signing as Arse manager following Lucas Torreira’s (£26M)arrival on Tuesday.

Football goes round in cycles as somebody mentioned on here earlier, and if this England squad was about 20 years ago, it’s not fit to lace Hoddles England squad in France.
However, it’s the same all round the globe, no country are setting the world alight and are all distinctly average in comparison to their individual history’s, and so this is the best chance ANY England squad will get to win a since ‘96 and definitely in the generation to come.
So as much as I despise international football, and watching England feels like having my teeth pulled without anaesthetic, I hope England pull it off, if for nothing else than the good feel factor a win will give our spurs players moving forward plus shut the pundits the fuck up.
With more and more foreign players playing here, playing time at the top level will get more and more restrictive for English players making the pool to pick from smaller and smaller, so I feel this is the time for them to do it for all those factors even though the England squad is no more than very average.

I wonder if Danny Rose is trying to blame THFC for his lack of game time in the World Cup? I recall his comments pre tournament about depression and all the awful things his club had put him through. I really hoped and expected he would have more game time as a platform to get fit and sharp again and banish some of those mental daemons, but that has not happened and frankly its not likely too either.

I still think he would be better than Young in the LWB position but Young has done very well and there is no way he is being dropped.
There is also no way anyone will bid top ££ for Rose in his current situation so we will surely have him on the team bus with us next season, where he faces the similarly tough task of displacing the excellent Ben Davies.

I fear we may never see the ‘old’ Danny Rose again in the Lilly white and that is a big shame.
I hope he proves me wrong.

I hear they’re particularly interested in the spanners.

Mickey hazard wasn’t a bad player, just couldn’t live in Hoddles shadow.
If he is like Mickey, at least he can drive himself home and maybe pick up a fare in the process, as long as it isn’t sarf of the River.

    • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 9:56 am

From memory he was a pretty decent dribbler. Of course Hod was God, but Mickey took on the mantle of flawed but entertaining midfielders like Alfie Conn, one of my favourites. Alfie would beat a couple of defenders brilliantly and then trip himself up and end up face first in the mud to loud cheers.

      • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 10:29 am

Conn’s finest game, Spurs 4 Leeds 2 1975. Spurs had to get a result to stay up. Conn caused chaos in Leeds’ defence, creating first two goals, scored a great fourth. Most intense atmos I’ve ever felt at WHL.

We played Leeds at the perfect time, they were looking forward to a European Final. Can you remember Conn, sitting on the ball, during a Game ?

        • melcyid July 11, 2018 at 12:22 pm

I was about 8ft away from him in the corner at Paxton rd when Conn sat on the ball and taunted Bremner you come and get it.That game was amazing and like you said intense. The atmosphere nearly sucked the life out of you.

We’ll just have to hope that Liverpool don’t manage to secure Dybala.

Why would he want to go to them anyhow? Oh, of course, they’re ambitious and keep reinforcing their team wherever possible.

And of course, if you don’t ask, you don’t get. Liverpool are asking top players to join them, Spurs don’t even bother.

    • Tappaspur July 11, 2018 at 9:47 am

TOTTENHAM are way more desirable than Liverpool.

      • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 9:50 am

And yet we don’t try, don’t ask. And please don’t say we do it all in secret, there is no such thing as secrets in footballing circles. If Spurs made enquiries, we’d hear it. This isn’t MI6 and Mossad were talking about, it’s greedy agents trying to publicise their clients’ every haircut and bowel movement.

        Until it comes to Money.

    • Steven Hawkins Football Boots July 11, 2018 at 9:49 am

I’m a bit concerned as you are as to the ‘apparent’ lack of action.
But do you know spurs aren’t asking?
Maybe they are but are keeping it close to their chest.
      That’s what I’m hoping!

      • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 9:51 am

See above my reply. What we are witnessing this summer is classic Levy playbook.

        • Steven Hawkins Football Boots July 11, 2018 at 9:57 am

Maybe but did anybody see the magnificent 7 happening before it did?
I’m not wanting that again, just a couple of quality additions in spurs weaker areas, and keeping hold of Toby, but my point is you just never know with spurs what the fuck they’re thinking or what is happening.
Well, we generally do know what they’re thinking, but they do occasionally surprise us for the right reasons, just not anywhere near enough.
The issue is that not leaving dealing until the last minute as such, it’s that the longer it’s left, the less time the players can integrate and get a good Pre season in.
And it’s worse this summer as the transfer window is shorter AND the world cup will inevitably interfere with pre season, especially spurs as they’ve a lot of players involved even up to and including the semi finals.

          • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 10:02 am

The magnificent seven wasn’t secret though was it! It was the talk of the summer, Spurs were linked, Spurs bought, one after the other.

This summer, somebody hit the mute button. I’ve heard more noise in a Cistercian monastery after lights out.

            • Steven Hawkins Football Boots July 11, 2018 at 10:04 am

Is a monastery somewhere you hang out regularly brother Glos?

They wouldn’t let me join the convent. They claimed never to have heard of gender re-assignment, the teases!

      • Harry Hotspur July 11, 2018 at 9:54 am

I’d be delighted to see us do the right thing.

        The itk bothers me.

        ‘Double figures’ to be sold?

        Sheeesh.

        • Steven Hawkins Football Boots July 11, 2018 at 9:59 am

Itk as you know H is a take it or leave it thing with very few people having any itk at all, but just speculate cos there’s nothing coming out of the club.

  • Gloster1861 July 11, 2018 at 9:30 am

Hey! Mickey Hazard wasn’t too shabby (by the standards of the day).

    I liked Ronald McDonald.

    • Harry Hotspur July 11, 2018 at 9:42 am

Micky got upset with me on Twitter a few years ago. I asked him for RT for my aunt Rose who was a massive Spurs fan celebrating her birthday.

Of course the snap was of Rose West, he RT’d it and then realised and then went mental.

          It did.

If this is true, what a fantastic act of bastardry.

  • Ali's-Baba July 11, 2018 at 9:07 am

Is he just an expensive Berahino? A less distant Leandro Damiao? Could he be a very expensive Clinton Cards? Could he sign for Spurs this summer? Of course you can Malcolm….
