“The best two in the country” – Former Spurs manager makes best in the league claim about Tottenham star

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has made a significant impact since he arrived in North London last summer.

Spurs signed the Dutch centre-half from the German club Wolfsburg for a significant transfer fee of €40 million.

Van de Ven has been exceeding expectations with his performances, drawing attention from both fans and pundits.

With him in the team, Spurs look like a completely different side and look much more likely to come out as winners.

Hoddle believes Micky Van de Ven is best in his position alongside Van Dijk

Former Lilywhites midfielder and manager Glenn Hoddle shares a similar sentiment and has named Van de Ven as one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League alongside Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

In a discussion on the Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Glenn Hoddle praised Micky van de Ven’s impact at Tottenham, highlighting his belief that the player possesses the quality to compete at the top level.

Drawing parallels with compatriot Virgil van Dijk, Hoddle identified van de Ven as one of the best defenders in the country.

He said:

“Obviously is there are good players available and you can get them, I mean look at Van de Ven coming to the club.

“He’s obviously a bit injured at the moment but he looks as if, for me, if he didn’t get injured at the beginning of the season, he would be in most players’ Premier League side.

“He and the guy at Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, they’re the best two in the country. Funnily enough, they’re both Dutch, so he’s a find he is. If we get a few more like that in different positions and a couple of wide-men, then we aren’t far off it.”

Micky van de Ven has been the signing of the season for Spurs

Apart from injuries, the 22-year-old has been a consistent presence on Tottenham’s team, starting in all 18 league games he has been available for this season.

With another hamstring injury currently sidelining him, Spurs fans will hope he is back soon for the final stretch as they aim for a top 4 finish.
