Tottenham Hotspur’s injury woes continue as defender Micky van de Ven becomes the latest player to be sidelined, adding to the club’s growing list of setbacks.
The Dutch centre-back suffered a hamstring injury during Spurs’ recent league fixture against Aston Villa, forcing him off the field early in the second half.
While manager Ange Postecoglou provided a positive update on Van de Ven’s condition, stating that the injury isn’t severe, it’s unlikely he’ll feature in the upcoming clash against Fulham.
However, concerns have been raised by former Tottenham scout Bryan King, who suggested that Van de Ven may require surgery in the summer and hinted that he may have returned too early from his previous injury.
King emphasised the importance of managing hamstring issues carefully, expressing worry for the young defender’s future.
Speaking to Tottenham News, King said:
“I think van de Ven is a very fine player, whoever was responsible for bringing him in did an incredible job. He is so quick, and he will be a big miss while he is unavailable.
“I am worried because this is his second injury of the season. Will his hamstring need an operation in the summer? Perhaps he came back too early from his previous injury.
“Issues with the hamstring can be nasty, I have known people with hamstring issues and they can continue for ages, sometimes those people have had surgery to address the issue. It is worrying for a player as young as him.
“He is very quick, and sprinters tend to pick up hamstring issues as well because of those explosive starts they need to make, so perhaps that is contributing to the issue.”
Van de Ven’s Hamstring Problems
Van de Ven’s hamstring injury isn’t his first this season, as he previously faced a similar setback in November, sidelining him for nearly two months.
His absence will be felt by Spurs, given his standout performances since joining the Premier League last summer from Wolfsburg.
While the club remains hopeful for his swift recovery, the uncertainty surrounding Van de Ven’s injury raises concerns about his long-term fitness and availability for future fixtures.
