Tottenham Hotspur picked up a narrow win over Luton Town in the Premier League yesterday but their overall performance was quite underwhelming.
Bobby Zamora has now reflected on the showing of midfielder Yves Bissouma during the game.
The 27-year-old Malian international was sent off at the stroke of half time and Zamora feels that the Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will have some strong words in reserve for the player.
Speaking after the match, Zamora said: “There’s a part of that mentality in terms of what’s happened on the pitch with a player getting sent off and one of those [yellow cards] for diving.
“It’s something that he [Ange Postecoglou] will have to have a strong conversation about and listen I think they’ve got away with it lightly in terms of it.
“They had a couple of chances, they didn’t put them away, another team they’d have been punished severely and it could have cost the team three points.”
Bissouma picked up his first yellow card of the game with a rash tackle that gave away a freekick to Luton. The home side managed to score from the resulting freekick but it was ruled out for foul.
Bissouma picked up his second yellow card of the game with a dive and his sending-off put his team under immense pressure for the remainder of the game.
While Tottenham did well to grind out all three points, Bissouma’s irresponsible showing will not go down well with the Tottenham manager.
The 27-year-old has been in impeccable form for Tottenham this season and he has been one of their best performers.
It was an uncharacteristic showing against Luton and the player will be thoroughly disappointed with his own performance.
Bissouma is now suspended for the upcoming game against Fulham and he will look to bounce back strongly in the coming weeks.
There is no doubt that he is a key player for Tottenham and Postecoglou will want the player to perform with more composure and responsibility for the remainder of the campaign.
