Jun’ai De’Andre Ashlee Byfield is a 17-year-old English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back (defender) for Tottenham Hotspur.
Born on December 6, 2008, in London (specifically Lambeth), he stands at 1.85m (6’1″) and is right-footed. He has been part of Tottenham’s academy since the age of eight, initially starting as a striker before switching to defence around the Under-11 level.
Jun’ai grew up in the Bromley area and has progressed rapidly through the youth ranks. Byfield made his Under-18 debut at 15 during the 2023/24 season, became a regular in 2024/25 (even captaining the side to Under-17 Premier League Cup success as a schoolboy), and featured in the UEFA Youth League. He signed his first professional contract with Tottenham on December 10, 2025.
He was an unused substitute in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup and travelled with the first team on pre-season tours.

His Champions League debut (and overall senior competitive debut) came on January 20, 2026, in Tottenham’s 2-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
Coming on as a substitute in the 62nd minute (replacing the injured Lucas Bergvall), he played around the final half-hour and helped secure a clean sheet. At 17 years and 45 days old, this made him Tottenham’s youngest-ever player to appear in the Champions League.
The performance drew widespread praise: he looked composed, calm, and didn’t appear out of place—even in an unfamiliar right wing-back role at times—against a strong opponent.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank highlighted his training impressiveness, trust from teammates, and high potential, calling it a “wow” moment and noting how proud his parents should be. Fans and observers described him as looking like he “belonged” on the big stage, contributing solidly and earning acclaim as a highly-rated academy talent.
Byfield himself posted on Instagram:
“Happy to make my first competitive debut, especially for it to be in the champions league. Also happy to become Tottenhams youngest Ucl player .”
