The Uruguayan international, under contract until 2026, Rodrigo Bentancur remains under close observation by both the club’s management and coaching staff—particularly following his not-so-long-ago seven-match suspension issued by the FA.

Sources suggest a renewed interest in the boy

The Boy Hotspur’s sources within the club suggest that Tottenham are not ruling out the possibility of a contract extension. Talks with Bentancur’s representatives are expected to begin this month, with a potential deal that could extend his stay until 2028 already on the table.

Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Premier League sides such as Aston Villa and West Ham United have shown strong interest in the player. Both clubs are actively seeking leadership and footballing intelligence in their midfield, placing Bentancur on their radar.

Across Europe, Fenerbahçe and Atlético Madrid are reportedly tracking his situation closely, drawn to his tactical discipline and balanced style of play. The 28-year-old, whose contract with Tottenham expires in June 2026, has caught the attention of Fenerbahçe’s manager, José Mourinho, who is keen to bolster the team’s midfield. Reports indicate that Fenerbahçe is planning to initiate talks with both Tottenham and Bentancur’s agent soon, aiming to secure the transfer before the summer transfer window closes.

Other names remain in the frame

Tottenham’s consideration of alternatives like Douglas Luiz hints at possible shifts in midfield planning. Yet Rodrigo Bentancur’s adaptability and stabilising presence on the pitch continue to earn him the trust of the club hierarchy, keeping the contract renewal scenario very much alive.

Talks in the coming days will likely be pivotal—not just for Tottenham, but for clubs across England and Europe eyeing a potentially decisive moment in Bentancur’s career.

Hope for the future

Under Thomas Frank, fans can certainly expect to see a more defined shape to the Spurs squad, and what the side desperately needs – a playmaker – could already be right under our noses. Bentancur has scored some fine goals and produced exciting key passes and assists.

Yes, there have been issues with injury and temperament, but if Tottenham can be convinced these are manageable issues, then Rodrigo Bentancur might be quite the player for us, again. Rodrigo’s time at Spurs has been marked by key moments, including helping the team secure fourth place in the 2021-22 Premier League season and contributing to their 2025 UEFA Europa League victory.
