Tottenham seeking new right-back this summer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the hunt for a new right-back as they seek to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming summer transfer window, as reported by The Athletic.

Spurs are aiming to provide adequate cover and competition for current first-choice right-back Pedro Porro.

The move comes amid concerns over the performances of current backup Emerson Royal, who has struggled to make an impression under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Since Porro’s arrival from Sporting CP, Royal has found himself relegated to a bench role, often called upon as a makeshift replacement in the backline.

However, his style of play does not seem to align with Postecoglou’s tactical requirements for a modern full-back, prompting speculation about his potential departure from the club this summer.

Royal’s uncertain future has attracted interest from several clubs, notably both Milan clubs in Serie A.

Recent reports have indicated that both Inter Milan and AC Milan are monitoring the situation closely, with suggestions that Royal’s agent has held talks with AC Milan representatives.

In addition to the Italian interest, Royal has also drawn attention from the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Nassr making an approach for the Brazilian in the January transfer window.

However, Tottenham rejected the bid at that time. With Royal’s future now in question, a renewed bid from Al-Nassr or other interested parties could materialize in the upcoming transfer window.

As Tottenham prepare to address their right-back situation, the search for suitable reinforcements intensifies, with the club keen on securing a player who can provide quality cover and compete effectively with Porro for the starting role.
