Tottenham paired with interest in £18M rated Vertonghen replacement

By Ron Carne -

Tottenham could reportedly be looking at Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren to fill the potential void left behind by Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian international is currently set to leave on a free transfer this summer as his contract will expire at the end of June.

Should an exit materialize, Jose Mourinho will reportedly look to bolster his defensive options to replace the experienced defender and The Sun report, via La Lazio Siamo Noi, that Tottenham are interested in Lovren.

It’s added that Lazio, Arsenal, AC Milan and Lyon are all also keen on the Croatian stalwart, who is also said to have an £18m price-tag, while it’s specifically suggested that he could be targeted as a replacement for Vertonghen.

Spurs have conceded 40 goals in their 29 league games thus far, giving them the joint-worst defensive record out of the top 10 sides in the standings.

Coupled with the possible loss of Vertonghen this summer if a new deal isn’t agreed upon, adding an experienced player like Lovren could become an important priority for Mourinho for Tottenham ahead of next season.
