Tottenham are looking to bring in a replacement for Hugo Lloris at the end of the season.
According to a report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Londoners are keeping tabs on the Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been in fine form this season and his performances with Empoli seem to have caught the attention of the Premier League club. The player has kept 5 clean sheets in 15 Serie A games this season.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs are willing to follow up on their interest with a concrete offer in January or in the summer.
Vicario is a key player for Empoli and the Italian outfit might not be keen on selling him midway through a season. A summer move seems more feasible.
Meanwhile, club captain Hugo Lloris has regressed massively over the past year and he needs replacing. Vicario seems like a quality long-term alternative.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs can bring him to the Premier League in the coming months.
Lloris has produced costly errors for Antonio Conte’s side this season and he has been criticised heavily for his performances by the fans and the media.
The £100k-a-week World Cup winner remains a big presence in the Tottenham dressing room because of his experience and leadership qualities, but he is more suited to the role of a backup keeper now.
