Tottenham closing in on Brazil ace

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a move for the Roma defender Roger Ibanez.

According to Roma Giallorosa, Tottenham are set to hold a meeting with the Italian club for the Brazilian soon.

Apparently, the north London club had an offer of around €22 million rejected by the Italian club three weeks ago and it seems that a ‘deal could be closed’ for a fee of around €25 million.

West Ham are keen on signing the 24-year-old central defender as well but Tottenham are currently in pole position to sign him.

The reported asking price seems quite reasonable and the difference in valuation between the two clubs is nominal. It is fair to assume that Tottenham will eventually reach an agreement to sign the defender.

Ibanez has done an impressive job at Roma and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Tottenham as well.

The north London outfit conceded 63 goals in the league last season and they need to improve in that department if they wanted to do well next season and get back into the Champions League.

The 24-year-old central defender could form a quality partnership with Cristian Romero and improve Tottenham defensively.

The opportunity to play for a Premier League club will be an attractive proposition for the defender as well and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

The 24-year-old is still quite young and he is likely to develop with coaching and experience. The €25 million asking price could look like a bargain in the long run.

Tottenham certainly have the financial muscle to pay up.

Apparently, Roma director Tiago Pinto is set to arrive in London in the ‘coming days’ to hold transfer talks for the player and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can thrash out an agreement.
