Thomas Lemar Latest: How The Frenchman Could Only Cost Spurs £5M This Month

By Joe Fish -

Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar could be available on loan for as little as £5m this January, according to the London Evening Standard.

Standard Sport understands that Atletico are trying to start a bidding war for the France international who joined them from AS Monaco in 2017 but has failed to make an impression on their manager Diego Simeone.

Chelsea have reportedly been offered the 24-year-old for £50m as an alternative to Wilfried Zaha, but a loan is more appealing to his Premier League suitors, including Spurs who are monitoring his availability.

Sky Sports reckon we are mostly in the markets for loans this window to fill gaps in the squad. I’d argue there is no gap in the squad at left-wing, which is Son Heung-min’s best position and has Ryan Sessegnon as cover.

Lemar is fairly one-dimensional, playing 134 of his 190 senior appearances as a left-winger, according to transfermarkt.com. His addition would free up Son to play through the middle and Sessegnon to operate at left-back.

I’d rather us sign a genuine striker to fill the Harry Kane void, but at £5m – with no summer obligation to buy – there’d be little harm bringing him in.

I’m 50-50 on this one.
