“These memories are unbelievable” Sonny on special goals at Spurs stadium

By Ron Carne -

Heung-Min Son has revealed his delight over writing his name into Tottenham folklore with his goals at the new stadium.

The 27-year-old scored against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on the opening night at the club’s new home before finding the back of the net to register the first goal in the Champions League at the stadium too.

With 16 goals and nine assists in 32 appearances so far this season, the South Korean international has continued to emphasise his importance to the side this year but he will cherish those memories, a year on from that night against Palace.

“Sometimes I can’t even begin to think about the fact I actually scored the first goal ever at the new stadium,” he said, as quoted by the club’s official site.

“You almost don’t realise the significance of it because it is so special. And then to score the first Champions League goal as well… these memories are unbelievable. I’m so proud, so happy.”

While the season is currently on hold due to the coronavirus crisis, Son and the rest of the Tottenham squad will hope to get back on the pitch to complete the season in the coming months and add more great memories at the stadium as the battle for Champions League qualification continues.

The break has allowed him to recover from an arm injury he sustained last month, but it remains to be seen when the Premier League is given the green light to resume with nine games still to be played for Spurs.
