Rafael Benitez sends transfer advice to Harry Kane amid Manchester United links

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old striker has a contract with the London club until the summer of 2024 and he could look to move on in the summer.

Kane is yet to win a single trophy with Tottenham and a player of his quality will want to challenge for the major trophies next season. The player has been linked with Manchester United and the Red Devils could offer him the platform to compete for trophies every season.

Tottenham are yet to find a quality long-term replacement for Antonio Conte and they are likely to be in a transitional phase next season.

It remains to be seen whether they can convince the 29-year-old to stay at the club and signed a new contract with them. Spurs will not want to lose the player on a free transfer next summer.

Kane has scored 27 goals across all competitions this season and he could transform the Manchester United attack if he joins them.

However, former Premier League manager Rafael Benitez believes that Kane should look to stay at Tottenham and break the Premier League goalscoring record. He also warned the England international that he will be just another player at Manchester United, whereas he could be the spearhead of the Tottenham project and build a formidable legacy at the North London club.

Benitez also cited the example of former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard who was at a crossroads in his career but decided to stay at Liverpool and cement his legacy as one of the club’s all-time greats.

“You need to know where you need to go,” said Benitez to the Premier League. “If you go to a team that can’t win trophies, then it makes no sense. You have to make the right decision. You have to pick the right team – I had a situation with another player and he is now a club legend, which is Stevie G.

“I think it’s really important to be the top scorer in England. To be a player that has been in one team all his life or go to another club and take a risk.

“When I was trying to convince Stevie I said ‘if you stay here, then you will always be Steven Gerrard’. If you go to another top side, then maybe you will be one good player. One of the big names, but you will have four or five.

“Here you will be Stevie G and everyone will know that, with him (Kane) it could be the same, if he goes to Manchester United, they will have two or three players that are really good players. He won’t be their best player but one of their best players.”
