Pundits support Tottenham gaffer’s last chance saloon tilt

This has been a second season of hardship at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Ange’s initial season having started brightly enough, but this time around, the big man has been absolutely plagued by injuries. In truth, Ange did have some similar issues at Celtic, but it remains to be seen, if here were to secure a third term in North London, if the same misfortune were to continue. Should that be the case, then it’s almost certain, more serious questions would be asked.

We’ve fallen in love with several of the great casino games at Unibet HU, but Spurs fans are certainly split on whether Ange Postecoglou is truly up to the task. To many, despite his points per game or win percentage ratio, the Australian has become a figurehead for sticking with a manager.  The risk of this frankly ‘hell or high water’ approach is somewhat mitigated by the fact that it would be mathematically impossible for Tottenham to engineer relegation even if they tried.

Another factor at play here is the much lauded business model of ENIC, and how the spreadsheets will tally with the absence of European football. Of course, this side could win the competition, and certainly the bookmakers favour us, but it’s quite a gamble, needing to win a tournament, in order to secure being in it again, the next time around.

We now face AZ in the last 16, on Thursday, after the Eredivisie side stunned Roma in the league phase and dismantled Galatasaray in the play-offs. Sports pundit Ally McCoist believes that Tottenham Hotspur can win the UEFA Europa League this year,
“I think Spurs are going further. I think Spurs could win it. If they get key players back, they get a boost. I honestly think Spurs could win it. I think Rangers will beat Fenerbahce but will not go further than Spurs or [Manchester] United”
Ally isn’t alone amongst the pundits in believing that the Lilywhites are in with a good chance. Former Chelsea and England man Joe Cole added his voice of support.

“Tottenham have got a chance if they can get their players fit but they’ve got to get through AZ Alkmaar. I watched AZ Alkmaar the other week at Galatasaray in the second leg – they’ve got some pace up front and they were electric up front. They blew Galatasaray away and Galatasaray were fortunate to get a 2-2 draw.”

If Ange fails to make the impression in this last chance saloon of a tournament, all eyes will be once again on a reaction from Daniel Levy!
