I’ve waited a day before commenting on what is currently unfolding again at Spurs. I fail to see how the morale at Spurs has seemingly fallen apart again unless there is something we are unaware of. Having got into a position of strength, against the odds, Spurs have decided to Spurs it up again.
They must hate the supporters to put us through this. We can get the stick out and beat Emerson Royal and Sessegnon all day but it will not change a thing. Royal will never be an attacking threat and Sessegnon has missed a lot of games and is probably short of fitness as well as confidence. Conte picked them both for yesterday’s game and threw them both under the bus. He also ignored Reguillon and Stevie B when he decided to make changes.
Kane didn’t get any service yesterday but let’s have it right; Kane was awful. He gave the ball away when he did have it, was careless with his passing and moaned at the referee when things didn’t go his way. Harry Kane was one of the worst players for Spurs yesterday and so was Dier. Hugo also had some brain fart moments with his kicking and charging out of his area. Conte’s tactics, team selection and game management have also been rubbish in the games against Brighton and Brentford.
Son was the only experienced player who contributed anything of note yesterday. Hojbjerg also did OK. Davies was steady and turned in an acceptable display. Kulusevski and Bentancur were quiet and ineffective. The whole team were poor.
I am starting to suspect that Kane is sulking again. It seems odd that his form picked up when Pochettino was being endlessly linked with the Manchester United managers job and has now gone off a cliff again when it transpires that Pochettino is not getting the gig after all.
Conte is totally inflexible with this 5-2-3 system that is either devastatingly effective or more impotent than a eunuch with a semi on. I’m sick of it. I am starting to doubt Conte’s judgement. Surely the name of the game is to secure 4th place between now and the end of the season. If that means changing tactics before or during a game, due to injuries or a failure of the tactics, then surely that is what needs to be done?
The Villa game was a warning. We got away with it that day. Conte has not altered a thing and I am not having it that Spurs season will now fall apart due to an injury to Matt fecking Doherty.
It’s something else and I’m starting to think it’s Conte.

A few unremarkable conclusions:
We looked marginally more alive than against Brighton and we were lucky not to lose.
Conte doesn’t fancy/trust Reguilon. When a half-fit Sessegnon gets in ahead of you, and the coach would rather sub on Sanchez and put Davies at LWB than put you in, the writing’s on the wall. (Even Doherty got in at LWB ahead of him at a stage!)
Our product from out wide is shocking. Shocking. Sessegnon, Royal, Davies, whoever. The crossing is utterly awful, hit and hope. No semblance of anything rehearsed there.
When the other team stops our counters, we can only use the width and cross (uselessly) or try to play Man City-esque passes through the eye of the needle in a congested last third. We don’t have the players to do that, and it inevitably leads to loss of possession.
We might STILL make the CL, but to what end? Are there any indications we would fare better there than at Mura/Zagreb/Pacos Ferreira/Vitesse?

Recruitment can be a bit hit and miss, but if you don’t sell well as well that effects a transfer budget. We’ve lost of 200m for the transfer budget at the very least in not selling at the right time.

You know it really doesn’t matter who the manager is if the recruitment is so poor. What money we do spend is not enough on individual players and too spread out on kids and punts. Levy’s transfer policy is like peeing into the wind and seeing where it lands. The real problem is that he is obsessed with uncovering the next Bale all the time instead of buying solid, tested players like Liverpool do. He’s sprays money around all over the place like he’s on a roulette wheel.
Until we change our transfer policy we’d be just as useless under Pep or Klopp.
What does it take for this to sink into Levy’s dense skull? Same money for half as many players. Also don’t shaft a successful manager in CL qualifying terms by going 500 days without buying him a player might help.
