Home » Live Frankfurters

Despite the emotional and psychological difficulties of their beloved fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone passing away last week, Tottenham found the spirit and the focus to bounce back from last week’s surprise 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt by winning away to in-form Brighton.

A visibly emotional Spurs manager Antonio Conte dedicated the result to Ventrone, a man who Conte said… “was in the heart of every single Tottenham person”.

Sometimes these moments can turn a campaign on its head, and that’s precisely what Tottenham will be praying for here, after mixed results have left their three remaining UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage games as crucial ones – which is the last thing Conte needed after implying to the media that his squad lacked the depth to be successful in multiple competitions this season.

After dealing Spurs a minor shock last week, Frankfurt were handed a 3-0 drubbing by the previously winless Bochum, whilst also becoming the first club in this Bundesliga season to fail to score against Bochum.

They slipped back out of the Bundesliga top six as a result, whilst four scoreless efforts from their last seven games across all competitions must be a concern for manager Oliver Glasner.

Courtesy of their 1-0 win at Marseille a month ago, Frankfurt remains unbeaten in seven UEFA away fixtures (W6, D1) after last season becoming just the third team in history to complete a UEFA Europa League campaign without a loss.

Perhaps most alarmingly for Tottenham, that includes five wins from five starts as travelling outsiders – including a 3-2 triumph at Camp Nou – which serves as another reminder that they cannot be taken lightly.

Players to watch: Tottenham midfielder Ivan Perišić has scored in two separate victories against Frankfurt for two clubs, and would be delighted to return to the scoresheet after three assists in all competitions during September. His Croatian compatriot, Frankfurt’s Kristijan Jakić, scored a goal the last time he played a full 90 minutes away from home (at Stuttgart).

Hot stat: Only one of the six Group D games in the 2022/23 UCL have seen both teams score.

Already is an afterthought.NFL has a worse head injury issue than ‘soccer’. I don’t see it as future proof. The Americans are in denial about it so far…

The summer transfer window didn’t improve our starring eleven, yet it was weirdly hyped as a sign of intent and the backing of Conte. Utter drivel…

If only. There no way they would get chosen over a state of the art purpose built NFL stadium which is currently hosting all the games in England. The yanks love the ENIC dome.

Well well….all the flack taken few years back. Maybe not today…maybe not tomorrow i said…NFL head Roger goddell has spoken of plans for and international division. Yep.thats what the stadium was always about. The real team will one day move in and the football team (sorry , soccer) , the “anchor tenant ” will finally become what it was always ENIC’S intention for it to be. An afterthought.

Playing out from the back with Sanchez and Royal is suicide. Dropped off completely after Bentancur came off which proves how valuable he is. I’ve said it before, Bissouma was the wrong signing. Need an AM in January. If either Bentancur or PEH gets injured we’re fecked

How to finish a game from 3-1 up.

Spurs: concede one against 10 men, scrape a 3-2 win.
Liverpool: score 4 more for a 7-1 thrashing.

Resting the players worth it in the end though – and trying to get Skipp and Moura to remember what a football is (no evidence they do based on that last 15 minutes)

What a crazy world.
This lot got smashed 3-0 by Bochum at the weekend (1st team not to score against Bochum). Then they score 2 at NWHL. Although apparently they are very good away in Europe whereas we are not very good home or away.

Undecided 😂 but I’ll forever remember the passage of play where Gil fell over the ball when clean through, the Frankfurt player backheeled it back to him, then there was some good work to get us the penalty – only for Kane to balloon it over the bar.

Only Spurs can go defensive and drop deep when the opposition is down to ten men. Royal is a total shambles. He conceded the corner then failed to challenge for the cross. Utter dross, Get rid of. How many chances does Conte give him? IF he is the best of our rwb choices then that is a shocking indictment of our summer transfer window

Son and Kane look sharp but Dier and Emerson are just accidents waiting to happen. We desperately need another quality CB alongside Romero and a decent RWB, ATM and another top-quality striker.

Good response and cracking goal by Son. Dier and Royal are the weakest links. Can’t wait for Doherty to get back into the team which says a lot. Sessegnon ain’t great, but not too shabby. Richarlison has to get more involved. His first touch is usually okay, but too many misplaced passes, that needs to improve.
