I think we punched above our financial weight for a long time in our old little stadium while working on this big one. I have watched almost all their matches this season, they do not have any strikers and not much quality in the front outside of Sabitzer and Werner. Most of their goals this the winter break have come from their defence on set pieces. Early in the season before Demme left for Napoli, they had this insane press that led them to average 20+ shots a match, and they would miss at least a half dozen tap-ins every match. If somebody hires this manager and gives him some talent, he will win many titles, including the Champions League.
Jose gets a free pass until next season. I don’t care what style we play so long as we are winning matches.

His squad would work their tails off to win the ball back, pass it back to the keeper, catch their breaths, and then build slowly from the back, probing until they found a hole in the opponent’s midfield. That doesn’t work anymore. The only club left in the league, besides us now, that allows you to build slowly from the back without pressure is Villa, which is why that is the only match we have looked good in since he changed our system in January.

In fact Jose has never had a ‘tough’ job as a manager, he’s basically been spoilt throughout his career.
Every team he’s gone to have had the biggest spend in every league he’s managed in and he’s never had to turn around clubs with endemic issues before, like Utd and Spurs.
He’s a cheque book manager and his man management has never been properly tested before his last two jobs.
The world he inhabited as a manager previously has now gone, partly because the game has moved on and partly because none of the petrodollar clubs want him anymore. It’s China or Qatar next for Jose…
