Ben Jacobs, who works as a Premier League commentator for talkSPORT, frequently has the inside track on the transfer news from England’s top flight, and on this occasion, we are treated to some gossip surrounding the biggest current noise in the Tottenham bubble, word on Mohammed Kudus to Spurs.
The West Ham player on paper looks a very good bet, but just how close are Spurs to capturing the West Ham United attacker, who has been heavily linked with a transfer to Tottenham so far this summer?
The Hammers are believed to be reluctant to sell Mohammed, largely because he is regarded as a significant asset. Kudus arrived at West Ham from Ajax for £38.5m in 2023. He made an impact in his debut season with 14 goals and 9 assists across all competitions, though his form dipped in 2024/25, with 5 goals and 4 assists.
An additional word of warning may be required in respect of the player’s temperament. Kudus was sent off in a match against Tottenham on October 19, 2024, after a VAR-reviewed incident involving violent conduct against Spurs players Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr. Initially given a three-match ban, it was extended to five matches, and he was fined £60,000, so some see this as a bold move by Spurs.

Jacobs warns us that Chelsea are also mulling over the idea of moving for Mohammed, after cashing in on some of the hotels in their portfolio, which has raised questions over the club’s PSR compliance, but that matter was cleared by The Premier League.
Our view on Kudus to Spurs
The idea that Thomas Frank and Spurs have identified a target that they feel will enhance the side is incredibly positive; however, this potential deal comes with a smattering of red flags. The interest of Chelsea is not to be underestimated. Also, will the player get sent off for behaving so badly, whilst in the Lilywhite?
The Guardian understands that the release clause of the player is £85m, but this applies to Premier League sides for the first 10 days of July. The suggestion is that perhaps £60 million would get the deal done.
