The Daily Mail understands that Manchester City are considering Tottenham’s Harry Kane as a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero.
Aguero is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2021 and City will reportedly reward his service by allowing him to leave on his own terms.
The Argentine has spearheaded four title triumphs and recently become the top overseas scorer in Premier League history with his 177th goal.
The task of succeeding their all-time leading marksman is so important to City that planning has begun for his potential departure in 18 months.
Kane and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez are the top candidates, according to the Daily Mail, which may not be of immediate concern to Spurs as the 26-year-old is out for most of the rest of the season with a hamstring strain.

A transfer this summer also seems unlikely with the distraction of the European Championships with England and Aguero likely to stay for now.
But the summer after is when things could get dicey for Spurs. Kane will be approaching 28 and at a watershed moment in his career. If Jose Mourinho hasn’t delivered a trophy by then, Kane may decide that he has to leave.
