Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford’s 25-year-old Cameroonian right-winger, has earned his plaudits, scoring 20 goals and providing 7 assists in just 38 games for the G Tech Stadium-based side.
Looking at the broader picture, over the last five seasons for both Brentford and Troyes, Bryan has recorded 42 goals and 28 assists in 140 appearances, with a W52 D38 L50 record. The trajectory of the boy is exciting, to put it mildly.
Mbeumo to Spurs has been a transfer rumour that has caught the imagination of supporters, but that’s been in the face of a growing suspicion that Manchester United might be seen as a more attractive move, with one report suggesting that fellow Cameroon team-mate, Andre Onana, may have been an influence.
Bryan recently sang Thomas Frank’s praises
“He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I’m sure he’s going to do well.
I think he knows everything. He’s really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. I think he’s been fantastic for Brentford.”
However, it is this line, highlighted by the Evening Standard, that may be interpreted as more of a goodbye than anything…
“He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I’m sure he’s going to do well.”

Our view
It’s that last line that kills the hope, for me. It certainly doesn’t sound as if they are planning to be working together again anytime soon.
Bryan Mbeumo is an outstanding footballer and one very much of the required standard for what is one of the world’s most challenging divisions. His scoring record is excellent, and being known for his left-footed precision and versatility, he’s also been Brentford’s first-choice penalty taker.
Manchester United are hardly the Red Devils of old, but the reputation of the side that dominated English football for decades remains.
One imagines this will be a tussle decided by money; these sorts of things normally are.
