Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou lauded young talent Mikey Moore after another stellar performance during their pre-season tour.
Following a thrilling 3-2 win over Vissel Kobe in Japan, Postecoglou shared insights on the 16-year-old’s development and potential.
The Australian coach emphasised that Moore has been outstanding since joining the first team last season.
He pointed out that Moore has secured his spot on the roster through consistent performances in both training sessions and pre-season matches.
Postecoglou praised Moore’s maturity and his ability to manage the pressures of first-team football at such a young age, calling it commendable.
In the game against Vissel Kobe, Moore scored the winning goal with a close-range finish from Jamie Donley’s low cross. This goal further showcased Moore’s excellent pre-season form, where he has been a constant attacking threat.
Earlier in the pre-season, Moore scored a brace in a 5-2 victory in a behind-closed-doors friendly against a Japan Youth side and also netted in a 5-1 win over Hearts.
Moore made history by becoming Tottenham’s youngest-ever Premier League debutant in a match against Manchester City in May last season. His performances have indicated that he could be a crucial asset for the team in the upcoming campaign.
Despite Moore’s young age and past injury challenges, Postecoglou believes that with the right guidance and support, Moore can achieve his full potential.
As quoted by Football.London, Ange stated:
“Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in. He’s earned his spot on the roster at the moment – he did at the end of last year.
“He got a run with the first team because we could see in training that he was handling himself really well and that’s followed through into pre-season training.
“He’s been good in all the games – he probably should have had three tonight, to be fair – but he did take his goal well by being in the right areas.
“All we can do is keep allowing him to develop. We have to remember that last year he had some injuries and he is only 16, but yes – super exciting.”
As Tottenham gears up for the new season, Postecoglou is expected to integrate Moore into the regular first-team plans, relying on his excellent form and promising talent to contribute to the team’s success.
