Gary Lineker changes his mind about where Tottenham will finish this season

By Mehdi Gokal -

As Tottenham gear up for their 2024/25 Premier League opener against Leicester City, former Spurs striker Gary Lineker has made a notable adjustment to his season predictions.

Originally, Lineker had predicted that Tottenham would once again finish fifth, narrowly missing out on a Champions League spot as they did in the previous season.

However, the well-known broadcaster has since changed his assessment and has now predicted to place Spurs within the top four.

In the hours leading up to the Leicester match, Lineker confessed that he had initially intended to rank Tottenham higher in the standings. He now believes that Spurs will be vying with Liverpool for a place in the top four.

Lineker’s shift in perspective underscores his growing optimism about the team’s prospects, particularly after a summer marked by key signings.

Speaking to The Rest is Football, the pundit stated:

“Just a quick one on Leicester and Tottenham while I think about it.

“When we did our predictions, I made an error.

“It’s okay to change it now, because they haven’t played yet. But I was meant to put Tottenham in the top four. I only had three Champions League spots. I am just going to correct myself there and put Tottenham in the top four.

“It’s myself. I listen to the podcast, to check that we don’t mess up too much and I thought, ‘hang on a minute? Why did I put Tottenham fifth when I was meant to put them third or fourth, battling with Liverpool’. I even said ‘batting with Liverpool’. So, just to be clear.”

Tottenham has significantly strengthened their attack by acquiring Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for a reported £55 million, with potential bonuses adding up to £10 million. This addition of a proven Premier League striker is expected to enhance the club’s offensive capabilities.

Furthermore, Spurs have bolstered their midfield by bringing in promising talents like Archie Gray from Leeds for around £40 million and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden for £8.5 million. These signings have added depth and flexibility to the squad, boosting their chances of clinching a Champions League spot.

With these strategic reinforcements and Lineker’s renewed confidence in their potential, Tottenham supporters have ample reason to look forward to the new season with optimism.
