Ange Postecoglou admits Tottenham star is ‘hoping for a move somewhere else’

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The 36-year-old looked like a shadow of his former self last season and his underwhelming performances have led to speculations that he could be on his way out of the club this summer.

It appears that the French international goalkeeper is now deciding on his future and he has been left out of the pre-season tour as well.

The Tottenham squad is currently in Australia but Lloris has been given the permission to stay back as he considers his future at the London club.

The newly appointed Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has finally opened up on his situation and revealed that the French international goalkeeper has contributed a lot to Tottenham and he was given the option of whether he wanted to travel to Australia with the squad for pre-season or stay back and decide his future.

He said to Football London: “I had a really good chat with Hugo. He’s been an outstanding servant for the club for a long time. Captain of the club, and has left an indelible mark on the club. Had a chat and he felt that he’s hoping for a move somewhere else so he can begin next phase of his career.

“I left it up to him about whether he wanted to come along because I felt he deserved that. I’ve only spoken to him a couple of times but seen how good he is in training.

“It’s probably not the way he wanted to end his time at Tottenham with all that he’s contributed.”

It seems that the club is open to his exit as well. They have already secured a long-term replacement in the form of Guglielmo Vicario.

The Italian goalkeeper had an impressive campaign with Empoli last season and he will look to make his mark in the Premier League. Lloris was quite error-prone last season and Vicario should prove to be an upgrade.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper is at the peak of his powers right now and he could sort out the Tottenham goal-keeping position for the foreseeable future.
