I think that if that was your experience as a kid. It might be why you struggle to see the good in people and need to find fault in others. I grew up in chingford in the 80’s and you didnt need to be black to experience downright out of order abuse. There was a bullying culture around working class areas at that time that was extremely toxic and totally colour blind. Its time we admitted it. Total cunts for the most part.

I largely agree a lot of it is imho down to kids not being kids…. first thing kids do when they are upset with someone is scream the first obvious difference between you & them: whether thats glasses, skin colour, hair colour, tall, short, overweight etc etc…. after several years & as kids reach teenage years this generally stops…. imho because of the equality, inclusion & whatever else kids cant be kids anymore. Back in the day fattest kid in goal was because kids want to win…. by taking that all away & expecting them to be rational & objective in later life on social media is going to have consequences… throw in kids on-line writing as speaking which is enforced by likes & you have the perfect storm. Inappropriate or hostile language up there for all to see liked by numerous others.

There are some vile racists, I am sure. You know, swastika’s hidden in the bedrooms and all that. But a lot of it, I reckon, is you’ve got someone who is angry and can’t restrain their anger verbally much (which means they’re like kids). When you’re a kid you try to say something that sets someone apart and hopefully gives them some sort of stigma. It begins with ‘my dad can beat your puny looking dad up’.. but then it can develop in nastier ways if the kids aren’t told to vent their anger without getting mega personal.
So kids will pick on something different in the other kid. Glasses, weight, colour, smell, freckles, etc etc.
Some people retain this into adult-hood. They might ‘generally’ not be really bad people… but when the get irked they get momentarily nasty. For instance you could say ‘That Bruce Grove guy pi**es me off with his grandstanding tottenham views. He’s full of sh*t.’ If you retain that child-like personal attack in your anger though you might say ‘effing four eyed moron with a haircut like a poor lawnmower job’. You get personal. And if you go in for personal attacks with people of colour you use the N word and many worse. Does that mean you’re a closet column 88 member who would ship every non-saxon out of England. No… it means you’re a bit of a t*t when you’re angry.
The racist shouting on social media was wrong… and the social media companies should clean it up, and such people kicked off (so they gotta go on the rubbish twitter instead). But… that racist shouting didn’t indicate Britain is turning into the 5th reich… I’m sure… 95% of those people are just plain ‘morons’.
