Tanguy Ndombele’s career has not gone according to plan since his big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The French international midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the North London club, despite multiple opportunities under different managers.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Napoli and the Italian outfit have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season. Apparently, they would have to pay a fee of around €30 million to sign the Frenchman.
Journalist Paolo Esposito has now revealed (h/t Area Napoli) that the midfielder is not worth half of the asking price and Tottenham would have to lower their demands in order for the move to go through.
He also slammed Ndombele’s performances this season claiming that the midfielder makes absurd mistakes and it is evident why Antonio Conte wanted him away from the club.
He said: “Now I understand why Antonio Conte sent him away from Tottenham. He makes absurd mistakes, comes out suddenly from the game, is responsible for the goal Napoli conceded on the occasion of Milan’s momentary advantage through Giroud.
“The football is on loan to Napoli, but they have the possibility of buying him out for €30m. In my opinion, Tottenham’s request is excessive. The midfielder is not worth all that money, and as I see it not even half. I also spoke about it with the president Aurelio De Laurentiis: for those figures, the player will never be redeemed.”
There is no doubt that Ndombele was one of the most promising young talents in european football when he moved to Tottenham, but his development has clearly stalled. It is evident that he has no future at Tottenham and the North London club should look to cut their losses on him in the summer.
It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman can secure a permanent exit away from the club and resurrect his career with regular football elsewhere.
Napoli will be hoping to sign him for a knockdown price and it will be interesting to see whether Tottenham are prepared to reach a compromise.
