Tottenham is stepping up their effort to land Kim Min-Jae as Chelsea prepares to beat them to his signature.
The South Korean was on the radar of Spurs in the last transfer window as they searched for a centre back.
However, they focused on the European market and signed Joe Rodon from Swansea.
Min-Jae has continued to develop his game at Chinese side, Beijing Guoan, keeping European teams interested in his services.
Mirror Sport says that Spurs are now preparing an offer for him to avoid losing out to Chelsea.
The Blues have been free-spending this season and they represent a genuine threat to José Mourinho’s side.
He was the defender Spurs wanted to replace Jan Vertonghen in the summer. The Belgian has not been replaced as Davinson Sanchez is struggling and Rodon is yet to earn the trust of the Tottenham manager to start games regularly.
His current deal with Beijing will expire at the end of this year, they know they will have to cash in on him as soon as they can to avoid losing him for nothing.
Spurs will still remember when Chelsea signed Willian from under their noses in 2013, and they will be keen to avoid a repeat of that scenario occurring once again.

Does Kim have the military obligation or is he exempt like Sonny?
It’s fairly obvious what we need to strengthen the team, but Mourinho is already talking down any business in this window.Or perhaps it’s his mind games.Maybe levy has told him he’s had this season’s money. The next two weeks will tell us.
He’s better than dier and Sanchez that’s for sure. He’s a CDM for me.
Re Willian. We dodged a bullet there. Glad we didn’t give him £200,000 a week to top up his pension pot. Really tearing it up for the Woolwich. Imagine having him and Bale on the books.
Is he any good? I only saw him in some internationals and he hardly covered himself in glory…
Milan S soon come. 🌚
We definitely need to sort out our defence. Toby is still our stand-out defender and every time we pair Sanchez and Dier together you sense the possibility of a mistake that will cost goals. We are very lopsided going forward as well as we have Requilion running at pace down the left but Aurier now seems to stay very deep with Sissoko trying to cover his brain farts. Aurier is better attacking than defending and if we had better defenders we could go three at the back and go with two wingbacks on both sides. How many times do we have to see Dier give possession away with aimless punts upfield or lose his man completely on crosses or free kicks? He may have a good attitude but his ability is limited. If we do not get a centre back this window then give Rodon a try alongside Toby who has the experience to help him during matches, We also need an attacking midfielder to help with our transitional play. Ndombele shows glimpses but fades in games especially in the second half.
If sonny says he can play that’s good enough for me. Bring him in.
