71% Of Duels Won: How One Spurs Player Swung The Fine Margins In Mourinho’s Favour

Yesterday’s game against Sheffield United ably demonstrated just where the missing bite from Tottenham had been hiding; this extra edge came from a number of players, but most noticeably, the boy Ndombele.

Most fans will have noticed that the Frenchman appeared fitter and managed to complete an entire game for once. However, it’s only when we drill into the statistics that we see the tangible effect of the extra edge this play gave Spurs.

For context, Ndombele’s mean average contributions in this discipline is 52.5%. That’s some leap, the sort of leap that helps swing games.

Add to this, the extra fitness and the extra time on the park generated greater concentration levels. in the broad brush area of total successful actions, Tanguy also gained ground. How good is 81%? For context, in our last 3 games which were against Fulham, Brentford and Leeds, the best outcome Tanguy could achieve was 56%.

If you’re looking for reasons to have the ache with Spurs’ absence of attacking prowess, then avert your eyes from our dugout and start looking at Ndombele and our attack minded players for answers.

Man City have stopped using an extra defensive midfielder and are benefiting too. It’s getting the balance right. Sissoko is not creative and Winks is impersonating Ray Wilkins so Tanguy is your man.
