25-year-old signs long-term contract with Tottenham, club has officially confirmed

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced that goalkeeper Brandon Austin has signed a new long-term contract with the club, extending his stay until 2029.

The 25-year-old, a product of Tottenham’s academy, has worked his way up to become a member of the first team under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Austin, who has been with the club since his youth, has shown significant promise and dedication, leading to his inclusion in the first-team squad.

Last season, he was named as a substitute in 18 matches under Postecoglou, although he has yet to make a senior appearance in a competitive match for Spurs.

Despite not having played in a senior competitive match, Austin did feature in a post-season friendly against Newcastle United. In that match, Tottenham lost on penalties, but Austin’s involvement indicates the club’s faith in his potential.

Austin’s presence on the bench for the last 14 consecutive games and his new long-term contract suggest that he has impressed Postecoglou.

The Australian manager appears to view Austin as part of his long-term plans for the club, which bodes well for the goalkeeper’s future at Tottenham.

With Fraser Forster’s future at the club uncertain, there is speculation that Austin could step up to become the primary backup to Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, next season.

The new contract for Austin might signal changes for other goalkeepers at the club. Alfie Whiteman, another 25-year-old keeper, could find himself further down the pecking order and may seek opportunities elsewhere in the upcoming transfer window.
