BREAKING LIKE THE WIND
Adam Richman Is About As Tottenham As …Carlton Cole

Adam Richman Is About As Tottenham As …Carlton Cole

Oh dear.

Look, lots of people have a second club. I actually salute that. It’s great that someone would support say a big Premier League club, but on a day to day level, in practical terms of affording tickets and travel, would more frequently be spied in the stands of a local Evo-Stik League side.

But Adam Richman has had more clubs that Tony Jacklin …and most of them are in the same division.

What makes the whole thing even more suspect, is that he’s managed to have picked Leeds and Man Utd (who want to kill each other) and West Ham and Spurs (on dear, dear me).

He told Hawksbee & Jacobs on talkSPORT:

Like most Americans I started off supporting Man United, then I realised that everyone in America is Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal …that’s it. I always wanted to find something a little left of centre.

So I had a sous chef that was a big West Ham fan, so I started watching them …and immediately loved watching Carlton Cole and Demba Ba and Scott Parker…then did a little bit more research…

I am Jewish, my family moved from Leeds to London… people say how can you do Spurs and Irons? Well, I’m American and I don’t really care!

I’d be more forgiving if this was a normal punter, but Richman isn’t. He’s a man who’s made a career out of enthusing about “stuff” ,and Spurs is no closer to his heart than the last Quadburger he ate. In fact, the burger is almost certainly closer, if it’s managed to squeeze through his veins.

While we wait for the YouTube footage of him breaking down as he sees Upton Park for the first time, it’s time to consign Adam and his lifetime supply of free merchandise from the club shop and Under Armour to the same fan file as so many other celebs.

    Sounds like an idiot.

My second team is Orient. Come on you O’s.

    • sybrian March 18, 2014 at 9:19 am

Ditto – as a young child I was taken to spurs by a neighbour and Orient by my dad and have followed both ever since – a long long long time!!!!

      • DAVID March 18, 2014 at 9:39 am

I lived a couple of miles from Orient’s ground so would go their with my mates. My dad took me to Spurs, even though he supported Arsenal. Reckon he wanted me to suffer!

    • Billy Legit March 18, 2014 at 1:02 pm

      Ditto.

      Russel Slade’s red & white armeee!….come on you f*ckin’ OOOOO’s!!

Oh, and who’s this fat yank burger guzzling bloke?…..never heard of him, so fuck off back to Dumbfuckistan and support a rounders team.

  • Sam Marks March 18, 2014 at 8:59 am

So pleased you said that…I have to admit I was a little unsure of the whole “audere est facere” motto shouting to who ever listens….

And as a foreigner you dont like a second team who are rivals…I have a soft spot for Juventus since Platini and then Baggio…but I dont look out for Torino’s or Milan’s scores.

For me it was a little to PR and a lot less sincere.

  • Hartley March 18, 2014 at 9:04 am

    • Billy Legit March 18, 2014 at 1:16 pm

My third team is the Spurs Ladeeez…..maybe we should give some of them a run out in the PL.

  • EngNor March 18, 2014 at 9:05 am

Only one space in my lilywhite hart for a football club, and that my dear fellow Yids is……TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC.

  • DiscoD March 18, 2014 at 9:09 am

My second team is now Toronto FC as Jamaine Defoe will always be in my heart…

  • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 9:18 am

To each his own, I’m actually lucky i don’t have a second team, in all probability it would almost have to be a team more depressing than Spurs, and i’m not sure my psyche could that

  • Eton Trifle March 18, 2014 at 9:25 am

I have a bit of a soft spot for Norwich but that is because I went to school in Norfolk and went to their football academy when I was a youngster.

Will always be a distant second to Spurs though.

  • Spurstacus March 18, 2014 at 9:27 am

H is there any way that each new blog can be announced on the current one?

    • Harry Hotspur March 18, 2014 at 9:38 am

Blimey. Probably. Let me have a look.

      • DAVID March 18, 2014 at 9:41 am

        • Spurstacus March 18, 2014 at 10:02 am

I have been fannying around on the feckin Daniel Levy blog, when I could have been casting my pearls before swine on this and the previous one. No Kirillus that is not a euphemism.

    • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 10:54 am

I’m with you on that Spurty…I’ve been done like a kipper a couple of times.

  • James March 18, 2014 at 9:28 am

Barnet would be my second team… And weirdly enough they have the ability to be even more depressing than Spurs. Constant relgation battles… followed by relegation… then flirt with promotion… followed by promotion… Repeat…
I am always on the look out for our next managerial messiah, I think Sherwood could be it… He seems to be like he could end up as outspoken as Brian Clough… And even though I results have not been great recently.. I see an improvement in the ethic of the team…. Less me’s more us…
Still I have said that about Barnet too

  • BrizzleSpur March 18, 2014 at 9:29 am

There was a rabid Chelsea supporter who phoned up 606 the other day after his side’s defeat to the Villa. He accepted that Matic used his hand to control the ball in the disallowed goal incident but made the point that as the ref couldn’t possibly have seen the handball he should have let the goal stand.

Summed him and his ilk up quite perfectly I thought.

In Amerca there are rivalries. The Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees is a big one and College rivalries are huge but for the most part they dont really have the edge that footbal rivalries have.
For many Americans its a nice day out. They eat their hot dogs, buy a shirt and cheer when the screen says cheer.
They love the last minute hero thing so they gear some of the games to that. But tribalism is not really anywhere near the same thing there. Sports for many is like going to the mall shopping.

        • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 11:59 am

I really hope he does, just sayin, we do, imo, have a pretty good squad, if you manage to erase Rose and 1-2 more from it. As much as i hate watching us right now, I”m sure we can look so much better if and when we are coached by a guy who understands 1-2 passes and defensive positioning.

    • Harry Hotspur March 18, 2014 at 11:43 am

The Spaletti thing is hot air from an agent. Don’t think Dan is any position to do anything right now. We can’t be relegated, we can’t make top 4, we can’t announce a new manager, or Tim will start throwing his shoes at airplanes…

      • gus March 18, 2014 at 11:44 am

Surely Dan can creep around and stick a new man in. Perhaps he can release the news on twitter before half time of the final game of the season?….

  • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 11:36 am

Yesterday jfdit & I were debating his point that you have to be a rich club to win the CL.
My feeling on this is that it’s players & their managers/coaches who win championships, so I looked at the last 10 winners and the net amount of money (players in, players out) spent on transfers by each winner for the same 10 years.
    In order of profligacy:
    Chelsea – €760M
    Barca – €323M but 3 wins
    Bay M – €291M
    L’pool – €260M
    Man U – €209M
    Inter – €55M
    AC Milan – €4M
    Porto + €270M
For comparison purposes THFC spent €198M pretty much the same as Man U but of course they had consistency & stability in the form of Sir Alex.
I can’t disagree with you jfdit that having unlimited resources helps but I do think the table shows that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve success.

    • gus March 18, 2014 at 11:45 am

Solid leadership which allows for smart player recruitment and training, and stability of management are priceless

    • UnkleKev March 18, 2014 at 11:48 am

      • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 12:01 pm

One manages the stats to reflect one’s point of view!!!!

      • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 12:02 pm

jfdit is probably doing just that.

        • jfdit March 18, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Nick, something that also needs to be factored is the quality of squad these sides had before the data is analysed, if a side invested £200 million before the 10 year period it would throw the data right out. You also need to factor is the money was spent well which in our case ain’t the case.

My point I tried unsuccessfully to get across yesterday is our competitors have upped their game plans and been spending on top players whilst we’ve been attempting to work on a break even budget to clear off the debt incurred avoiding relegation in ‘arry’s first season.

Unless we have a sugar daddy type operation, without the stadium it’s churlish and a tad foolish to think we can seriously compete with the citeh’s, chelsea, l’arse and man utd’s especially when you consider how much more in wages they currently pay.

It’s like having a 2.0 car trying to can keep up with a 3.0 litre car, until a point it will but when the more powerful engine decides to kick down it pulls away.

Something else also needs to be pondered & digested, in the PL three of our so called main competitors are either debt free or close to debt free. In all honesty I can’t see ENIC ever converting our debt into equity shareholdings. Man Utd have been hamstrung by the glazers and I not certain of liverpool’s owners strategy going forward.

          • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 12:32 pm

Ok how many seasons do you want me to back.
The figs above are 12/13 to 03/04 inclusive.
By the same token I’m going to remove the data for those seasons after the winning season for each club.

            • jfdit March 18, 2014 at 12:48 pm

I wouldn’t bother Nick, we both concur that invariably to have a fighting chance of any success the owners of a club need to invest large amounts of cash, there are exceptions to this such as porto but in the main money talks unfortunately

Just like in real life, money makes money make money

When you consider ENIC have invested less than £70 million of share capital into our football club, it’s remarkable that we’re even considering competing against the top teams.

I found something yesterday while bored in the office, Sugar lent ENIC the money to buy spurs off him (via loan notes) originally. This may have been a mechanism for sugar to crystalise his capital gains at a lower rate by deferring the payment to 2002 but interesting fact none the less.

              • DAVID March 18, 2014 at 1:11 pm

Always interesting to read you guys producing stats, it seems more than ever that for us to break into the big time we need a sugar daddy.

At the moment, we can’t attract the very best players or pay their wages so we buy promising players like Bale and Modric and then have to sell them on when they want CL football.

Or, we buy players who are considered past their best like Zeige or Klinnsman.

Looking back, this seems to have been the case for many years, Gazza was bought as a promising youngster, Linekar because he was near the end of his career, the last time we bought a player who was considered World Class and at his peak was probably Ardiles.

Not so long ago we wanted Willian and Oscar, both hijacked by Chelsea.

As a matter of interest, how far do you think we are behind Arsenal in terms of the stadium ? I guess they still have debts relating to it but now have the huge matchday income coming on stream.

                • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 1:24 pm

behind Le’arse, way behind in that respect cause they actually built it, we are simply trying to guess whether we wil actually build one.

                • jfdit March 18, 2014 at 3:46 pm

I read last year that they had circa £160 million sitting in the bank which was available to wenger to spend on players, I think they’re down to around the same amount in debt left on their stadium too so going on their numbers we’re about £400 million behind them give or take the odd £100 million which we may get in naming rights

                  • DAVID March 18, 2014 at 3:54 pm

So with them having loads of money coming in, ManC and Chelsea having owners who will spend whatever they need to and ManU having such a huge Worldwide following, we really are the poor relations.
And the gap will grow with every year we delay building the stadium.

If you turn the clock back 20 years, were we a lot poorer than Arsenal then ? I suppose their ground being in a higher value housing area than ours has helped them.

              • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 1:13 pm

Ok and I agree that we have wasted a lot of money in all directions (apart from the new training facility) which runs counter to the general opinion that Levy has managed the club well from a financial aspect.
Last year’s winners, Bay M, had a net spend of €177m on players during the preceding 5 seasons.
                I’ll leave it that.

    • Jan Vertiginous March 18, 2014 at 1:52 pm

      Interesting. Thanks Nick.

  • TheCincinnatiYid March 18, 2014 at 11:43 am

My second club is Zenit St. Pete. Now I can follow Deuce in Seattle, MG in Toronto and the Portuguese genius in the Tampa Bay Area. BPL move over, MLS is on its way.

    • Harry Hotspur March 18, 2014 at 12:12 pm

      Heh. Quality.

  • Spurfect March 18, 2014 at 11:45 am

    4-1 to Benfica Thursday Harold.

Our seasons done with after Sundays result.

See Rose is desperate for Tim to stay as its his only chance of staying as left-back. Not the first time he’s been vocal giving the manger lip service. First he’s praising AVB for having faith in him, then soon as hes out the door he discredits the previous regime and was praising Sherwood. The boys just not a good enough left back at the moment.

  • James147 March 18, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Vertonghen suspended, Kaboul doubtful, and Daws, Vlad and Capoue are out. So who do we play at centre back?

    • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 12:07 pm

bring in Tim’s Yuffs, actualyl I’d play the entire U-21 team.

    • Nick Hibbert March 18, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Probably have to use Fryers or Sandro or both

      • James147 March 18, 2014 at 12:13 pm

Gawd yeah. Thursday could be very bad.

      • realfan? March 18, 2014 at 12:28 pm

        • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 12:29 pm

Yeah, to be partnered by Shaq Coulthirst.

          • DAVID March 18, 2014 at 1:16 pm

More likely to be Shaka Khan.

            • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 1:22 pm

              I meant Shakira, meh.

              • realfan? March 18, 2014 at 1:24 pm

Could we get Shaquille O’Neal on loan? Ficken things up a bit.

  • Fiedor March 18, 2014 at 12:08 pm

Wasn’t this bloke recently on Hotspur’s Half Hour? No time for him personally. Is LvG still signed?

    • Harry Hotspur March 18, 2014 at 12:11 pm

He was every podcast/radio show this side of China.

  • Spurstacus March 18, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Les Ferdinand finds a window and throws the plan out of it.

      Quite perfect.

      • realfan? March 18, 2014 at 12:53 pm

…although I swear I saw Chris Ramsey playing a stallholder on Eastenders the other day.

    Predictions for Thursday?

Tims bag of coke falls out of his pocket on to the touchline, and he spends the whole of the first half on his hands and knees with a rolled up £5 note up his nose trying to retrieve it.

    • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 12:22 pm

is that before or after he throws his gizzard at Three-finger Jesus ?

    • Harry Hotspur March 18, 2014 at 1:07 pm

I don’t know if you listen to the middle class podcast that is HHH, but I make a similar reference in this week’s show. What will be out, this week.

  • dancingbarber March 18, 2014 at 12:44 pm

Not sure anyone will be interested , but my second team is Spurs. My first team is Wealdstone currently riding at the top of the Ryman Premier League. I haven’t been to see them since I moved to Stamford Hill when I was 12.

Last game I saw Johnny Haynes was playing for them – probably paid £10 a week at end of his career. His thinking was light years ahead of his team mates so he would probably have been declared a stat disaster by Squawka

    Predictions for Thursday?

Ken Barlow v Tommy Steele in a ‘last man standing’ style ‘throw your gilet into your seat’ off. Followed by a game of 10 pin bowling using footballs and fullbacks.

    Predictions for Thursday?

Daniel Levy spikes Tims pre match Barcadi Breezer with half a dozen double dipped Pink Floyds. Tim comes out for the game balanced, composed and dignified.

    Harry Hotspur
    Predictions for Thursday?

Tim gets to the game late after spending the evening outside the ladies toilets in Sparkles nightclub selling E’s. He forgets he’s got a bag of 25 lovedoves under the tongue of his Reebok Classics, which he loses whilst doing his impression of gorillas in the mist on the touchline. He looks over to Les and see’s him doing a war dance on the E’s grinding them into the touchline chalk.
Tim spends the whole of the second half on his hands and knees licking the sole of Les’ Nike Air Max (all the black guys wear Nike) trying to retrieve his investment.

    • realfan? March 18, 2014 at 1:27 pm

When I analcyst this, it sounds a bit racyst.

      • YidinExile March 18, 2014 at 1:28 pm

To white guys no doubt, Tim gives us a bad name…

        • realfan? March 18, 2014 at 1:31 pm

What I was saying. We don’t all wear Reeboks, you know. Some of us wear Lonsdale.

Tim turns up high on magic mushrooms and picks Walker on the rigt wing, Azza in the hole, Kane instead od Soldado, Bentaleb instead of Eriksen Capoue Paulinho. Hold on.. that was last week wasnt it?

Well you had him on your podcast and were quite pleased to have him. Will you be deleting the episode and is the abuse your acolytes are giving him job done?

  • Harry Hotspur March 18, 2014 at 3:29 pm

    Ken

Well you had him on your podcast and were quite pleased to have him. Will you be deleting the episode and is the abuse your acolytes are giving him job done?

Thank you for informing me that we had this idiot on our podcast.

Will I be deleting the episode? Based upon what reason, his 5 minutes of cobblers? That would do disservice to the the other 55 minutes of wonder.

Abuse of acolytes? Er… There’s been no liturgical rites here Kenneth, just him quoted verbatim. The man is a fucking fraud.

The show featuring his load of old cock interview stands as evidence against him. He’s a shyster.

Instead of worrying about me, take a minute or two to ask why you’re defending a con man.

    • StuSpurs March 19, 2014 at 3:03 am

Ive not had chance to listen to the podcast yet. What did Adam actually have to say?

  • jfdit March 18, 2014 at 3:49 pm

I read last year that they had circa £160 million sitting in the bank which was available to wenger to spend on players, I think they’re down to around the same amount in debt left on their stadium too so going on their numbers we’re about £400 million behind them give or take the odd £100 million which we may get in naming rights

  • macca March 19, 2014 at 6:35 am

I’d never heard of this bloke until you gave him such a bloody big portion of the podcast – and he immediately struck me a king size self-opinionated windbag.
This doesn’t make me think any more highly of him either.
