Tottenham Women held by Liverpool in WSL draw

Tottenham Women were held to a 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday, with a deflection off Sam Kerr giving them the lead before Aurélie Csillag equalised for the hosts. The point leaves Spurs level with Liverpool and Chelsea on four points after two Women’s Super League games, while Manchester City remain top after two wins from two.

Liverpool edged the early play and created the first notable chance, but Tottenham broke the deadlock in fortunate circumstances shortly before half-time. Signe Gaupset drove into the box from the left and attempted a cross, which took a heavy deflection off the retreating Kerr and looped over goalkeeper Khiara Keating into the net.

Tottenham looked to extend their advantage early in the second half, but Liverpool found an equaliser just before the hour and then pressed for a winner.

Csillag Header Restores Parity

Liverpool’s equaliser followed a passing move around the Tottenham defence. Fuka Nagano received the ball on the right and delivered into the area, where Csillag got in front of her marker at the near post to head home.

Liverpool continued to create openings after drawing level. Lize Kop made a smart save to push over an effort from Alice Bergström and later blocked a late attempt from Csillag. At the other end, Keating was also called upon to palm away a curling shot from Tottenham substitute Olivia Holdt.

Where It Leaves Spurs

Both teams had begun the campaign with opening-day wins, and the draw leaves Liverpool and Tottenham on four points from two matches. Chelsea are also on four points, while Manchester City lead the early WSL table following their perfect start.

Liverpool’s next league fixture is away to Manchester City on Friday, September 18. Tottenham earned a point from a closely contested match in which Liverpool had much of the pressure after the interval, while the visitors remained resilient through the closing stages.
