Reliable Source Reveals Dier Close To New Spurs Contract

Probably not the Tottenham news THFCMichael was fishing for…

Dier’s contract expires in June 2021, according to transfermarkt.com, and Spurs face a sell or commit decision this summer to avoid another Christian Eriksen or Jan Vertonghen situation, which cost the club millions of pounds.

The Times reported in October that Mauricio Pochettino was happy to let Dier go having seen his form and fitness decline since the 2017-18 season.

However, Jose Mourinho has always been a big admirer of the England international and his arrival offered Dier a chance to save his Spurs career. It didn’t start well as he soon lost his position in holding midfield, but a decent run of games at centre-back before lockdown may have saved him.

Fabrizio Romano is a pretty reliable source for transfer news so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some movement on this in the coming weeks.

It may not be exciting news, but Dier is a good guy to have around the squad and if Mourinho is happy to give him another shot, then so am I.
