Micky van de Ven has signed a new contract at Tottenham, the club have confirmed, extending his stay in north London. Spurs have not said how long the deal is due to run. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2028-29 season.
Van de Ven joins Pedro Porro and Antonín Kinsky in signing new deals this summer, according to ESPN.
What was said
Speaking to club media, Van de Ven described signing the new deal as a special and proud moment for him and his family. He said he has loved Spurs since arriving, praised the club and its supporters, and said he wants to be part of its direction.
Roberto De Zerbi said Van de Ven is one of the best centre-backs in Europe and an important player for Tottenham. The head coach highlighted the defender’s qualities, mentality and ambition, and said the new contract reflected his belief in what the club is creating.
Why it matters now
Van de Ven has made 75 appearances for Spurs since arriving from Wolfsburg in August 2023. His goal-saving clearance in the Europa League final against Manchester United, which Tottenham won at the end of the 2024-25 season, remains a notable moment of his Spurs career.
He regularly captained the club during the injury-enforced absences of Cristian Romero, James Maddison and Ben Davies. Romero is expected to be moved on this summer, with Atlético Madrid reportedly leading the race for his signature.
Tottenham round off their preseason campaign with a match against Hoffenheim at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before beginning their Premier League season against Brentford on Aug. 22.
