Spurs Reject Forest’s £38m Opening Bid for Lucas Bergvall

Tottenham have rejected an initial bid of around £38m from Nottingham Forest for young midfielder Lucas Bergvall, according to a report in the Telegraph via LiveScore.

Forest’s opening gambit has been rebuffed, and Spurs are not in any obvious rush to revisit their position. The gap between the two clubs’ figures suggests there is a stretch on the cards for Nottingham Forest, and they will need to decide whether Bergvall is worth the effort.

Why Bergvall Wants Out

The 20-year-old is keen to leave Spurs this summer in search of regular first-team football – a reasonable ambition for a player who managed just 11 league starts last season, injuries aside. His path to consistent minutes has narrowed considerably following Spurs’ big-money signings of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, combined with the lack of European action.

Roberto De Zerbi is keen to retain Bergvall’s services, but the 20-year-old is looking to secure a summer departure to play regularly. Either way, this is shaping up as a straight choice for Forest: meet Spurs’ price, or miss out.

Forest’s Calculus After the Anderson Sale

Forest’s interest is not without logic. Elliot Anderson’s £116m move to Manchester City has left a meaningful hole in their midfield, and Spurs say they would be willing to sell for closer to £50m. It remains to be seen whether Nottingham Forest will offer close to Spurs’ valuation as they look to bring in a replacement for Anderson.

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is also on Forest’s radar as they look to strengthen the middle of the park, though Reds boss Andoni Iraola has indicated he hopes to retain the England international. Forest are not short of options, but Bergvall appears to be a genuine priority rather than a fallback.

Whether Forest come back with a second offer that actually troubles Spurs’ resolve is the question now. A second bid is reportedly being weighed up, and it will be telling to see whether it comes close to Spurs’ valuation.
