Free Transfers & Swap Deals Is All Jose Will Get| report

Tottenham’s transfer activity this summer will be limited to free transfers and swap deals due to the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

That is according to Dan Kilpatrick of the London Evening Standard who understands that Jose Mourinho is braced for huge restrictions as he aims to redesign a Spurs squad that has declined dramatically over 18 months.

As Football London details, Daniel Levy had previously earmarked a £50m budget for the recruitment team in the event that Spurs did not qualify for the Champions League – we were seven points adrift of fourth with nine games to play when the season was postponed in March – if anybody remembers that historic concept of the 2019-20 Premier League table?

But the continued absence of football and thus matchday revenue, and the cancellation of major events scheduled at the new stadium, has hit us hard and apparently forced Daniel Levy into reining spending in even further.

This is an inevitability of the current crisis that all clubs are going to have to accept. Kilpatrick adds Arsenal and Man Utd are planning frugle summers.

Hopefully a few clubs out there will still be buying and we can bring in some cash from selling the likes of Aurier, Rose, Walker-Peters and Lamela to supplement the frees, swaps and loans, giving Jose a fighting chance.
