Lazio has reportedly slashed their asking price for sought-after midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from £100m to £65m.
That’s according to Foot Mercarto with the French source questioning whether that improves Tottenham’s chances of signing him this summer.
I’m happy to answer that one; no it obviously doesn’t.
Milinkovic-Savic had been touted as a possible Spurs target because of his natural suitability to Jose Mourinho; physical but technical.
But the Serbian has been out of our reach since his 13-goal breakthrough season of 2017-18 put most of Europe on red alert for him.
OPINION
Knocking his valuation down to £65m isn’t going to change that. We won’t be seeing any £65m transfers at Tottenham for a long time, at least in terms of incomings. The Covid-19 crisis could change the transfer market forever and if numbers do inflate again we have the stadium debts to contend with.
It is obvious that we aren’t in a position to stump up these numbers and the implication we are is, at best, lazy reporting, and, at worse, downright lies.
