Club chief expects 28-year-old to join Tottenham this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to secure an agreement with Barcelona for the French defender Clement Lenglet.

The Spanish club’s chief Joan Laporta has revealed (via Football Fancast) that he expects the Premier League club to reach an agreement for the 28-year-old.

Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham last season and he could be a useful option for the north London club. It remains to be seen whether they can sign him permanently before the window closes.

The Frenchman made 26 league appearances for Tottenham last season and there have been rumours that he could be signed for a fee of £8.5 million.

The 28-year-old defender is on wages of around £204,000 per week and it is fair to assume that he will have to take a major pay cut in order to complete a move to Tottenham. It is highly unlikely that Spurs will spend that kind of money on the defender and Barcelona will have to lower their demands as well.

Recently there were rumours that Tottenham could look to sign the player on a free transfer and they are waiting for Barcelona to terminate his contract.

The Spanish outfit are going through financial difficulties and they could be under pressure to part ways with the player in order to free up their wage bill.
