Are Spurs Still Top 4 Favourites for the 2024/25 Premier League Season?

By The Boy -

Ange Postecoglou’s first season with Spurs was full of drama, excitement, and plenty of
attacking football. After a promising start, which saw Tottenham go on an impressive 10-game
unbeaten run, Spurs gradually tailed off towards the backend of the season, dropping vital
points while trying to juggle an injury-ravaged squad.

Their final home game of the season even
saw them missing 8 key players against Manchester City, including James Maddison. However,
despite the injuries, fans would still have liked to see Spurs finish the season with a trophy,
having exited the cup competitions early and ultimately missed out on the top 4. But with the
2024/25 season is just around the corner, “Big Ange” is looking to turn a corner and make his 2nd
season with Tottenham a major success.

Will Spurs Make Top 4 in the 2024/25 Season?

If Spurs can make some big summer signings, stay injury-free, and reignite their
early-season form from last year, they should be able to make the top 4. Currently, most
bookies have them as 2/1 to finish the season in the top 4, with Aston Villa, Liverpool,
Newcastle, Chelsea, and Manchester United also given promising odds. Manchester City (1/10)
and Arsenal (1/4) are assumed by the bookies to once again enter a title race together, so
they’re the leading favourites and the only two teams that are seen as givens to be inside the top 4.
Jonathan Ridehalghl, an expert analyst from BettingTools, has shared his thoughts on Tottenham’s
search for a top 4 position:

“With Spurs finishing fifth place last season, they’ll be more desperate than ever to make the top
4, so you can expect them to cause problems for Villa and Newcastle once the new season
kicks off. And if they’re able to get some new signings through the door, they’re a pretty good
bet for third or fourth place.”

What Do Spurs Need for a Top 4 Finish?

It’s expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Spurs.
Since the departure of Harry Kane, the club has yet to sign a proper number 9, with Son Heung-
min filling the role for the entirety of last season.

Despite bagging 17 goals and 10 assists, many
believe that Son is still not a natural out-and-out striker and is best out on the wing, which is why
Spurs could potentially be looking at a fresh striker for the 2024/25 campaign. Current potential
candidates include Ivan Toney and Tammy Abraham, with both of them currently being
assessed by the Spurs hierarchy.

In addition to a new striker, Tottenham could also use a new right-back. Emerson Royal is
expected to depart Spurs for AC Milan during the summer, so Spurs have turned their attention
to Monaca right-back Vanderson, who would give them a major boost out on that right-hand
side. At the same time, reports are going around that Ange Postecoglou wants to bolster
the midfield by signing Weston McKennie, who just finished a great season with Juventus.

There’s also a good chance that Spurs will look to sign an additional winger, too, especially after
their injury woes of last season and Timo Werner’s inconsistency. However, due to budget
restrictions, Tottenham might have to consider the loan market or free agents, with players like
Anthony Martial (just released by Manchester United) potentially coming in. Despite this,
though, it’s assumed that Tottenham will remain focused on a new striker above everything
else.

Conclusion

The 2024/25 season is set to be an exciting one. It could be the most competitive top 4 race in
Premier League history, with Spurs, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester United, and
Chelsea all desperate to get one of those all-important Champions League places. The good
news for Spurs fans is that Tottenham are one of the favourites to make it, but they’ll be relying
on Ange Postecoglou to avoid the fatal “2nd season” syndrome if this is to happen.
