Absurd Højbjerg Asking Price Could Force Levy To Get Creative|opinion

All the momentum seemed behind Tottenham’s prospective move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

As Sky Sports details, the Southampton midfielder has been on our radar since January, and has publicly admitted to Danish outlet Sport1 that he wants to test himself at the next level.

Saints CEO Martin Semmens even told BBC Radio Solent yesterday that the club were ready to listen to offers for the 24-year-old, whose contract at St Mary’s will soon enter its final 12 months.

I knew it was too good to be true.

Because while they may be opening up for bids for Hojbjerg, the London Evening Standard reports that Southampton aren’t likely to accept anything less than £35m for their skipper.

In this Covid-19-afflicted market, with a year left on his contract, for a defensive midfielder at a bottom-half club…that is ridiculous.

But Hojbjerg is a player that I think we really need to balance our midfield. Swaps and instalments; Levy might have to get creative to get it done.
