England 2/1 FAVOURITES to win Euro 2020

After a comfortable 2-0 victory over Germany in the Last 16 on Tuesday night, the bookies slashed odds to just 2/1 on the Three Lions going all the way this year.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Football could well be coming home if the latest odds are anything to go by, with patriotic punters looking more likely than ever to cash in on Southgate’s stars going all the way.”

Trouble is I’m 66 and have had heart failure though, according to a heart specialist with whom I had a phone consultation in the Autumn, I no longer have it (don’t know if my GP knows this). Heart failure apparently can be reversible if caused by alcohol or drugs; I’ve never touched drugs, while though I like a beer or two and probably, like so many of us, used to drink a little bit too much, I’ve never been notorious for liking a drink!

You may have seen the G7 pictures. Champagne quaffing, mixing normally together. They know it’s nonsense.
Good chance Tommy Fleetwood may win the open.

Go and enjoy yourself matey. It’s a farce. No doubt they will blame “summer revellers” for their next wave. It’s all balderdash.

So did My friend across the way, David Dillenberg, so that may have delivered the kiss of death to your bet! Mind you, he has a bet on us,too!

Yes, I think they might, too (I would prefer to play the Czechs; prefer to be playing Ukraine to Sweden, too) but I think we would come through; I think the law of averages will not fail us this time, either, after losing our last four MAJOR semi-finals.

With all these squares across Europe full of celebrating fans, I imagine there will be an upsurge in infections soon enough. I have been strongly advised by my GP not to go to the Open golf in Kent in two weeks time. Also, as I waived aside my claims to a refund on membership fees with both Worcestershire and Warwickshire last year, I reckon that for the last £600 or so that I have spent in fees I have seen just two hours cricket so far; the ratio should hopefully improve before the end of the season but I am currently spending £300 an hour to see cricket in the flesh!

I think the Danes could provide a stern test in the semi final, if both get that far.

I put a few quid on Italy prior to the start of the tournament. I’m hopeful.

Yes, interesting what you say about injuries and suspensions while having to fight tooth and nail to get to the final. I t would be interesting to find out how far teams go when they have been in a so called “group of death.” Often, not very far, I imagine. All three teams from group F crashed in the round of last 16 this time. Couldn’t make up my mind whether the French have just been complacent or tired with their stop go performances (I’ve just this minute had a flash to say they were unhappy with Mbappe’s sulking – I felt sure he was going to miss his penalty – their hotel facilities and not seeing their families! So, there we are!).

The Portuguese had to play Hungary in Budapest and then Germany in Munich before returning to Budapest to take on France….and then it was on to Seville to play Belgium! Crazy! I recall Holland having some desperate draws and on at least one occasion in a major tournament playing brilliantly to escape a “group of death” and with such style that they were tipped by many to go on and lift the trophy; they got knocked out pretty soon afterwards, I think. A kind draw does enable you to slowly move through the gears and perhaps reach peak of performance at just the right time when the sterner tests come along.

It’s not just home advantage that we’ve had but the absence – until now, perhaps – of the usual accompanying pressure as the host nation because other sides have been playing at home also. Together with this, many of the other teams, at the end of a gruelling season, have had to travel all over Europe to play their matches, so it has been particularly nice if you have been one of those countries playing at home most of the time. The whole format this time has been crazy.

Wouldn’t say it was particularly comfortable, even if the scoreline suggests it, Harry. I thought they were a little bit better than us in the second half until our breakthrough, our first shot on target in the second period, and when the ball left Muller’s boot I thought it was going in for the equaliser!

I think I might be a bit worried if I was a Spain fan that the goals might dry up again after getting five in each of the last two games as they’re not usually that free scoring, rather the reverse in fact, and, yes, their defence is “flakey” on high balls. Belgium and Italy more of a threat and the Belgians with their “golden generation” going for perhaps their last chance of fulfilling their talent by winning a trophy my chief concern where England are concerned. But, they could be without DeBruyne on Friday and the Italians may do us a favour by removing them from the competition.Whatever, I think the Belgians will come up short as regards winning the whole thing. If we fail, it will almost certainly be in the final but somehow it does seem written in the stars to me that England are going to lift the trophy this time.

It’ll go…..the next morning after the final….newsflash: Delta variant out of control….full lockdown. You had your summer jolly up now suffer.

When Boris was asked about more lockdowns he opened his answer with this…

” Of course we can’t rule out some new horror”

What??

We have beaten a Germany side thanks to Mueller not slotting in the corner, but I didn’t lose sleep over that and they were beatable. If we were to get to the final, it is hard to see past Spain, Italy or Belgium. All 3 are better than us, but injuries and suspensions as they fight like tooth and nail to get to the final might help us out.

Spain would pass us to death but are flakey on the high ball and their attack is dodgy, although they are finding their scoring boots.

Belgium roasted, toasted, packaged and posted us in the Nations League but they are older and Hazard is not the force he was.

Italy are a mix of Spain and Belgium whilst not conceding many. I would rather stay clear of the Italians than the other two.
