England’s Euro odds slashed from 6/1 to 9/2 without kicking a ball

ENGLAND’S ODDS OF WINNING EURO 2020 have been slashed by Ladbrokes, without the team even kicking a ball last weekend.

The shock exit of the Netherlands on Sunday afternoon, coupled with Portugal losing, forced bookies to cut England’s odds from 6/1 to just 9/2.
It means that only France 4/1 are now considered more likely than Gareth Southgate’s men to go all the way this year, with Italy being 5/1 in the betting.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “England haven’t even had to kick a ball in the knockouts, but their odds of winning the Euros have been slashed after a couple of shock results last weekend.”

Slashed? Very slightly adjusted, surely?

I totally got mixed up, It’s Orsic who scored 3 against us not Petkovic. He’s made his mark alright.

It was the Czechs day. Went 3 3 and 6 record with Holland on 336 date numerology….they beat dutch in euro 2004 17 years and 7 days ago and yesterday was 177th day of the year. It’s all fated. Or fixed?

Sanches was incredible. I’ve seen two of Portugal’s four games and he seemed head and shoulders above Silva, Fernandes and other Portugal players. Always took hold of the ball, looking strong and fast.

He’s at Lille? Would be worth a shot to try and sign him.

I agree that Portugal’s exit was purely of their own making. They had enough chances to send Belgium home, but Jota especially kept his scoring boots on Merseyside!

Shocking defending for Croatia’s third. What were they doing?

I can recall only the one, about 60 seconds before the red card. Nevertheless, I expected them to stomp us into the ground, but they really weren’t all that, I thought.

The Dutch missed two fantastic opportunities to score and then came the (justified) sending off.

That would be my first betting choice of final, too.

Netherlands surprised me by how poor they were. After twenty minutes of decent quick play (i.e. kicking the ball long to Depay, Malen and Dumfries), they completely petered out.

I expect Denmark to be a much tougher test!

Well, not sure what was going on but the bookies would have made a killing off first goalscorer bets and Spain win to Nils….that Koke miss was beyond the pale…
9 oggys…don’t get that in pub football.

3-1 Spain now… maybe the scenario was “both teams to score”?

Anyone who thinks sport is on the level…..let’s forget about what the defender and goalie just did for Spain v Croatia, have a look at the two sitters before. Koke clean through and Morata with a free header.
It’s a farce. A giant farce.

I backed Germany before hand. But the final will be England v Belgium if the Germans go out. I suspect that may be happening.

I’m one quarter Portuguese (a maternal grandfather brought up in Goa but who died in 1935; I was a few months short of being minus 19!) and I thought with a dreadful draw – unlike last time when they had rather a nice route to the final, though Croatia was a difficult draw for a last 16 tie, – including two away games in Budapest and Munich, all told, they didn’t have a bad tournament, though not statistically, of course, successful. They were a little unlucky last night but you have to stick the ball in the onion bag as Jimmy Greaves would call it!

I’ve been delighted with Sanches’ performances, undoubtedly Portugal’s man of the match in the last two games and their best player, I felt, after he came on against the Germans. I like him very much and have done since watching him in this tournament five years ago. He made a significant contribution then as Portugal won the tournament but he was very raw, a diamond in the rough. He should perhaps have stayed at Benfica for another season or two; instead of which, he went to Bayern before he was ready to and, fairly predictably, couldn’t get in the team more than occasionally. His confidence sagged and he had a pretty dismal loan spell with Swansea. He appears to be back, hopefully, and certainly added some energy and tenacity to his country’s midfield.

So Nuno rejected to become Spurs manager as well, who is next then? as Mr Levy meltdown post Mourinho continues.

The Germans are very dangerous, if inconsistent. Destroying Portugal 4-2 is no mean feat (I say that having watched Portugal absolutely batter the world No. 1 side Belgium yesterday). Also, I fear I haven’t seen much to be excited about from England this tournament. The attacking play is mostly pretty dire.

Sidenote – keep Roberto Martinez as far away from Spurs as possible. Given their talent, Belgium play atrocious football at times, and for the world no. 1, they haven’t won a thing yet. How do you sit on a 1-0 lead and pray for your life with a side featuring Lukaku, de Bruyne, the Hazards etc.?

Of course, write off the Germans at your peril, but they have a hugely suspect defence. We shall probably have to play better than we have done so far and perhaps with more attacking intent (but perhaps Southgate is following Portugal’s pragmatic path to winning the cup last time out) but everything is seemingly in our favour with potentially 6 matches out of 7 at home and yet without the attendant pressure of being the host nation throughout the tournament. Easy half of the draw with Germany the only obvious danger to our plans. The way things are falling for us, I believe anything less than reaching the final will be an under achievement.
