Romano says Spurs are set to announce Savinho as Senesi move edges closer

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham are working on a deal to sign Manchester City winger Savinho, with the player keen on the move and a deal potentially done ‘quite soon’ from his side. Romano also stated that a Marcos Senesi announcement is imminent, with the Bournemouth centre-back joining on a free transfer as Roberto De Zerbi continues to rebuild.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano was clear that the sticking point now is the fee between the two clubs rather than any hesitation from Savinho himself:

“Savinho was attracted by Tottenham one year ago and Savinho is again attracted by Tottenham today. So on player side, I don’t see big issues. I think Savinho Tottenham on player side can get done quite soon. Now it’s Manchester City and Tottenham negotiating, discussing, talking about the transfer fee.”

Savinho would address a real and urgent problem out wide

Two consecutive 17th-place finishes – and a final-day survival scare last season – have made it pretty obvious that Spurs need genuine quality in the wide areas. Son Heung-min is not getting any younger, and the club have been actively identifying a successor out wide for some time now. Savinho, 21, fits the profile: direct, energetic, capable of producing in high-pressure environments after his breakout Girona loan in 2023–24.

The fee is the conversation now. BBC Sport reported earlier this window that City had briefed Savinho was not for sale even above £60m, though TEAMtalk subsequently reported that City had since approved his sale. If Spurs are going to break their transfer record to get this done, he needs to be a transformative addition – not just a promising one.

Senesi is a smart, low-risk piece of defensive business

On the defensive side, Senesi arriving on a free is exactly the kind of deal we should be doing more often. The Argentine centre-back turned down a third contract offer from Bournemouth and, with reported visits to Hotspur Way already in the mix, his preference for Spurs has been clear for months. Matteo Moretto reported a verbal four-year agreement was in place, with Liverpool also having held talks before fading out of the picture.

Whether Senesi partners Romero or van de Ven – or fills in when either is out – he brings experience, left-footed composure, and genuine tempo control. Our analysis of what he offers De Zerbi tactically is worth a read if you want the full picture. A free transfer for a player at this level is good business, full stop.

Senesi’s announcement looks like a formality at this point. Savinho depends on whether Spurs and City can agree a fee – and given City’s initial stance, that negotiation could drag. But Romano rarely flags player-side clarity this explicitly unless a deal is genuinely close. Watch this space.
