Tottenham busily working away on two goalkeeper deals

Tottenham may be in the midst of one of the club’s worst times in the memory of many fans, but the club is quite understandably ploughing on with plans to fight its way out of the mess. Specifically, Spurs’ goalkeeping situation is under scrutiny, with Vicario inconsistent and backup options not fully convincing. James Trafford is a high-potential target who could provide a long-term solution.

According to the BBC, Tottenham have expressed interest alongside other Premier League clubs (e.g., Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle). That’s some competition. One recent complication has come in the form of Trafford being linked with either a return to Manchester City or a preference for other moves; Newcastle reportedly see him as a top target. Competition could drive up costs or complicate a deal.

Bart Verbruggen is another strong candidate to be the ‘Guardian of the Onion bag’ at Spurs. Tottenham has shown strong interest, intensified by manager Roberto De Zerbi’s prior work with him at Brighton (Verbruggen has praised De Zerbi).

He is valued at around £50m and is seen as a high-upside, ball-playing keeper. Spurs are in a race with clubs like Bayern Munich (as a potential Neuer successor), Newcastle, and others.

This fits a summer rebuild where Spurs might aim for 4–7 signings and, of course, focus upon GK stability. The 23-year-old Netherlands International has been outstanding since joining Brighton, and Verbruggen could prove to be an excellent addition for Tottenham. However, clubs like Bayern Munich are also interested in the player.

It is fair to assume that the Dutch goalkeeper will be attracted to the idea of joining the German champions if they are serious about him. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince the player to join them instead.
