Nuno Santos Continuing To Push For Signing Of 24-Year-Old says report

Jose Mourinho is reportedly being encouraged to sign Lille stopper Mike Maignan on the advice of goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos.

Santos joined Mourinho’s Tottenham staff from Lille following the Special One’s arrival last November, and worked closely with 24-year-old Maignan to make him one of the top ‘keepers in Ligue 1. The Frenchman was voted the division’s goalkeeper of the year working alongside Santos in 2019.

A successor for Hugo Lloris must be sourced sooner rather than later, and Nuno is making the case for Maignan as our new No.1, according to French news outlet La Voix du Nord. Mourinho appears to be taking note as Le10 Sport reported in April that he favours the idea of signing Maignan.

The Lille connection gives us a good hook if Maignan does decide to spread his wings, but I think a change between the posts is just far enough down our transfer priority list that it will likely wait until next summer.
