Ndombele Wants Into The Team – Not Out Of The Club But For How Long?

Tanguy Ndombele allegedly remains determined to break into the Tottenham team despite reports of a fresh fallout with Jose Mourinho.

Julien Maynard of French outlet Telefoot tweeted on Tuesday evening, after Ndombele was again an unused sub in the 2-0 win over West Ham, claiming the midfielder had told Mourinho he no longer wants to work with him.

Mourinho publicly criticised the 23-year-old’s work ethic and fitness prior to lockdown and hasn’t given him a single minute since the season’s restart.

However, The Athletic report that Ndombele’s current focus is on forcing his way into the Spurs team, rather than forcing his way out of the club.

Co-authors Charlie Eccleshare and Jack Pitt-Brooke do add, though, that the Frenchman’s stance may change towards looking for a new club if he continues to be snubbed for the remainder of the Premier League season.

Even if he hasn’t completely downed tools yet, Ndombele is clearly not doing enough in training to earn Mourinho’s trust and it is difficult to see where his opportunity may arise. At the moment Giovani Lo Celso seems to have Ndombele’s potential place locked down and Dele Alli has been a Mourinho favourite. This club may only be big enough for two of three.

I don’t want to see Ndombele leave but I don’t disagree with Mourinho’s selection of others ahead of him right now. But how long can that sort of dynamic play out cordially before things blow up beyond repair?
