Jose Mourinho Wages: Report Claims New Spurs Boss On £15M A Year

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to pay Jose Mourinho a monstrous £15million a year in wages as the club’s new head coach, according to the Daily Mail.

The 56-year-old was this morning appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement, less than 12 hours after the once-beloved Argentine was sacked with Spurs languishing in 14th in the Premier League table.

The Daily Mail reports that Mourinho has signed up to earn nearly twice Pochettino’s annual salary over the course of his three-and-a-half year deal. Poch was thought to be on £8.5m after his latest contract upgrade.

The financial commitment that Daniel Levy has made in this managerial change – The Telegraph understands it would have cost Spurs around £12.5m to pay off Pochettino – shows how badly he wanted Mourinho.

Mourinho told The Independent in 2015 that Levy had tried to lure him to Spurs on at least one previous occasion. Now, for £15million a year, he’s got his man.

If you want the best, you pay for the best. Levy has ducked away from that approach in player recruitment, but not with this appointment.

Let’s just hope we get the best of Mourinho. You do wonder if he still has it.
