“He’s Finished” “Too Old” These Spurs Fans Concerned Over A Rumoured Defensive Solution

Five years ago, I’d have killed to have Diego Godin at Tottenham.

As good a partnership as Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen was in its pomp, the Uruguayan was the type of leader and warrior that might have gotten us over the line when we within reach of winning major trophies.

As the heart and soul of Atletico Madrid’s famous rearguard, Godin produced some of the best individual defensive performances I have ever seen in their run to two Champions League finals in three seasons.

Our defense needs some of that toughness and Jose Mourinho knows it.

The Mirror reports that Mourinho is a long-term fan of the 34-year-old who may attempt to sign him as part of his defensive restructure for next term. Manchester United, for whom the Special One tried to sign Godin a couple of years ago, are also said to be interested in buying him from Inter Milan.

But to sign him now, I’d be worried that Spurs would be getting a battered war veteran rather than the inspirational general that he was at his peak.
